Only 38 (!) Days 'Til Season Opener
Phillies tickets
went on sale this morning, and for some reason people stood out in the cold to get regular season baseball tickets.
"I have a six-pack already, but I'm looking for--I don't know what other games I'm looking for after that, but I'm up here to get some other games, probably two or three more," Anthony told KYW 1060. He's already in line and he's not sure what games he's going to get?
We are getting closer and closer to the season opener, March 31 against Washington. The biggest boring story of the offseason, Ryan Howard's arbitration case, ended with a victory for the Big Man. He'll get $10 million dollars, a record of some sort. I was rooting for Howard, if only because I wanted to root against Phils management. But now that Howard's contract is settled, we can get on to exciting arguments like how to trade Wes Helms.
Meanwhile, Jimmy Rollins responds to the Mets' Carlos Beltran, who said the Mets were the team to beat this year.
"One, there are four other teams in our division who are going to make sure that doesn't happen. And two, has anyone ever heard of plagiarism?"
I am getting more excited for the season every day.

Phillies Already Making Fun Of Pat Burrell
As you no doubt know, today is the day when pitchers & catchers report! (It's also some sort of greeting card company holiday.) No longer will we have to
not watch the 76ers in our spare time; now we can fantasize about heading down to Clearwater to catch some baseball if we had any money or time.
Anyway, the Phils are down there and the Phillies are already having a little fun, reports new Daily News Phillies beat guy David Murphy on his blog. (Don't worry if you didn't know about it; Philly.com doesn't bother to promote their blogs. But lots of Wing Bowl coverage!) Some prankster got that shirtless Phillies calendar photo of Burrell that comes up a million times on Google Image Search and put it on a shirt with the caption "Man or Machine?"
While I do think the caption needs a little work -- no innuendo in a caption on a photo like that?? -- it is nice to see the Phillies are back in action.
Update: And, hey, just in time for spring training, there's a History of Baseball exhibit coming to the Constitution Center. Phillies Hall of Famer Robin Roberts likes it: "For some reason I got a kick out of Shoeless Joe Jackson's shoes."

The Phillies Are Totally Going To Lose To Florida State
Yes! The Phillies spring training season officially begins tonight, as the Phillies play their first game after a few weeks of practice. Although the regulars won't play much, it'll be nice to hear that Ryan Howard, Chase Utley, Jimmy Rollins and the gang were hustling out there in something where score is kept, and... oh, what's that? They're
playing Florida State? (At right: Florida State golf balls.) Oh, that can't be good.
It's not uncommon for good college teams to play major league clubs in exhibition games before the season starts. But with pretty much everyone jacked up about the local nine this season, it'd be just like the Phillies -- or, really, any Philadelphia team -- to drop the first exhibition game to a college team. Dammit. They're totally going to do that. They're totally going to lose to this stupid college team and everyone's going to be deflated immediately, even though it doesn't matter.
Erhm. I mean: Go Phils. Lose and we're through with you. Hey, I know it's early, but we ain't going to take losing to a college team. Especially since the Flyers and Sixers would probably lose to a couple of 'em.

Blogicized: The boys of winter
• It begins: Down in Clearwater, Phillies pitchers and catchers report. Geeze, wasn't I just pining the end of baseball season the other day? And how long until the Phillies are out of contention this year? [The Good Phight]
• It's been 60 years since some ultrabright engineers at 34th and Walnut streets invented the effing computer, which, without it, would leave the American public with much, much less porn than we have now. So, to the people who made it happen: We all thank you. [Computer World via BoingBoing]
• Nothing brings dog-loving bloggers out like 337 counts of animal cruelty to cute wittle puppies. Hrumph. [Rittenhouse Review]
• Will Bunch is now guessing what medications Dick Cheney takes. Silly Will. Everyone knows Cheneybot runs on pure oil. [Attytood]
