Sammy D Says Goodbye, Eh
Oh no! The Sixers' Samuel Dalembert, who
actually became a Canadian citizen to play for the national basketball team, has
left the team, just a few weeks before the Olympics.
The team's coach wouldn't comment on Sammy D's status, saying he was only no longer with the team.
The Sports Network of Canada reported that Dalembert had a confrontation with a Canadian team official.[...]
After an 86-70 loss to Slovenia on Tuesday, [ex-76ers first round bust and Canadian coach Leo] Rautins criticized Dalembert's effort in the postgame news conference, saying: "He never got on track offensively or defensively. I didn't see him leave the floor to challenge people defensively, and on the offensive end he struggled not only with his shooting but with the decision-making behind the shots."
Hey! We say that kind of stuff about Sammy all the time! I guess the idea this time is that he just couldn't take it when it was coming from a Canadian.
Either that, or he just didn't like hockey enough.

Sammy D's Speed Racer Lawsuit
Oh, how did I almost forget: Yesterday,
TMZ posted documents of Samuel Dalembert's lawsuit against a group of business partners he says scammed him out of money he invested. Apparently, he gave over a million dollars to a group that was to license Speed Racer merchandise; the lawsuit contends the group never even owned the rights to Speed Racer.
Oh, yeah, and look: Teddy Pendergrass II is also named in the lawsuit!
The Daily News points out: "In an unrelated development, Dalembert has withdrawn from a scheduled trip to India with the NBA's Basketball Without Borders initiative to concentrate on training with the Canadian national team as it attempts to secure a berth in this summer's Beijing Olympics." Unrelated? I don't know, I bet it has something to do with this Speed Racer lawsuit.

Sammy D's New Haircut
Okay, so the 76ers got destroyed by the Pistons tonight, and now trail 3-2 in the series. But check out Samuel Dalembert's new haircut! He now has a mohawk and has "SD" (which stands for Sammy D, or "strong defense") carved on one side and his girlfriend's initials carved on the other. (I think; the announcers didn't do much but identify the 76ers as "young" and urge fans to go to Game 6 and I had stopped paying attention to them by pre-game.)
Yeah, I have no idea. But if someone told me before the season how much I'd end up liking Samuel Dalembert by late April, I probably would have punched him in the mouth. Who even knew the 76ers would be playing in late April?

Canadian To Attend First Hockey Game
The 76ers are so hard up for publicity this year -- the Phillies are currently on the front of Philly.com -- they've resorted to latching on to the Flyers, who at least have a winning record. And what's the newest publicity scheme?
Why, 76ers center Samuel Dalembert will attend his first NHL game!
Philadelphia 76ers' Samuel Dalembert will be attending his first National Hockey League game when the Flyers host the Ottawa Senators on Sunday, January 20, at 7:00 p.m. at the Wachovia Center. Upon arrival, Dalembert will be presented with a personalized Flyers jersey (DALEMBERT # 1) that he will wear throughout the night. "I'm really looking forward to my first Flyers' game this weekend," Dalembert said. "It is going to be great meeting the guys and experiencing the action up close and behind the scenes, all for a good cause."
Dalembert was born in Haiti, but he grew up in Montreal and recently became a Canadian citizen. How "Have you ever attended an NHL game?" is not the first question on the Canadian citizenship test I will never understand.
The press release also notes that Dalembert "will make a French connection in the Flyers' locker room when he visits with French-speaking players Martin Biron, Danny Briere and Simon Gagne after the game" and that his trip to the Flyers game is actually a prize won at an auction by some dude from Delaware. How "Attend A Flyers Game With A Sixers Player" was an item up for auction I will also never understand.
Full press release after the jump.

Sixers Center: Canada's Favorite Angel-Ghost
Earlier this summer, 76ers center and
master of the stupid foul Samuel Dalembert
became a Canadian citizen so he could join Canada's national basketball team.
Canada, who apparently is even worse at basketball than the 76ers, wanted Dalembert for its team to shore up the inside game, since Wayne Gretzky was at center during qualifying for the previous Olympics. Dalembert was born in Haiti and joined his parents in Montreal as a teenager; he returns there during the summer and was a basketball star in high school.
Now that he's a Canadian citizen, he wants to make the team as good as possible. So he's recruited two-time NBA MVP Steve Nash to join the team. He, apparently, hopes to scare Nash into joining the squad.
"He's probably going to get mad, I am probably going to be his little angel-ghost," Philadelphia 76ers centre Samuel Dalembert said. "I'll be in his ear every time he is playing [us]. 'Steve Nash, I need two hours from you. That's all I need from you, two hours.' "
Yes, his little angel-ghost! I'm sure Nash will be on the national team in no time.

Dalembert To Try Sport He Might Be Good At
Those of you who have been avoiding the Philadelphia 76ers because of poor play, lack of stars (Kevin Ollie! Two rookies you don't know! Shavlik Randolph when he returns from injury!) or anything else, you no longer have an excuse.
Before the game, Samuel Dalembert is going to be racing a toy car against a monster truck tomorrow.
Yes, let's go over this again: Dalembert is controlling a RC truck. The other guy -- Marc McDonald, driver of the monster truck "Safe Auto Minimizer" -- will race in his 10,000-pound truck. Dalembert will even get a crash course in how a monster truck works. Wow!
This is all good and fun -- and it will be even more fun if the monster truck runs over Sammy D's toy car -- but it's, of course, part of an ad, as the Monster Jam begins Friday at the Spectrum. But, as the release notes, the Monster Jam features "fire breathing robots, drag racing, and more." After the fire breathing robots, that more could there be?
Full release after the jump.
