Chinese Millionaires And Porn

072208chineseporn.png

A reader sends in this screenshot from the front of Philly.com earlier. And what great stories: Chinese millionaires turned away by the Convention Center and Comcast's signing of some anti-child porn code. See, sometimes there is exciting news in the summer.

Also awesome: Chinese millionaires have invested $3 million in Stephen Starr's Continental Midtown.

Man Commits Sin In Church

013108pervpreys.jpg
The Trentonian -- cute headline, guys, though I'm not quite sure what he was "preying" on -- reports today a civilian employee of the New Jersey state police has been arrested for allegedly looking at porn on a nun's computer in Hamilton.

Thomas G. Findler, 42, was arrested after a sexton caught him looking at porn on the Episcopalian nun's computer. Then, for some reason, he chased him out of the building.

The suspect had been logging on overnight to “hotyoungteens” and other fetish Web sites in a nun’s office at Grace St. Paul Episcopal Church (3715 East State Street), according to police and the maintenance man.

John Jones, the 35-year-old sexton (maintenance man) at Grace St. Paul, said he flushed out the intruder upon arriving at work about 8:30 a.m. yesterday.

“He said he was just looking at the computer,” Jones said, “but he was looking at porn.”

Porn Triumphs In New Jersey

121907adultvideostore.jpg
It's been just over a year since I wrote about Cherry Hill's never-ending battle against smut, and with good reason. Cherry Hill has been defeated by smut in a rout, and even the group fighting against "smut" has this message on its website's messageboard: "Sexy Models and Beauty Queens looking for Sugar Daddy!"

Absolutely, 100 percent total loss hasn't stopped everyone, though. Today the Courier-Post tell us the fight is "heating up" and gets the relevant quotes:

"The mayor will continue to fight against the invasion of deviant businesses and the sale of explicit material from corrupting our strong neighborhoods and family values in Cherry Hill," said township spokesman Dan Keashen.

Of course, this deviant business blocking comes with a price. Cherry Hill Township's insurance carrier agreed to pay $225,000 to the businesspeople blocked from opening an adult video store. But the township hasn't signed the order, so it's going to cost a lot more than that in the end.

Mayor Street, Eat Your Heart Out

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) -- Indicted former Mayor Sharpe James billed the city for adult movies and body lotions while on a business trip, prosecutors allege in documents filed in federal court.

Ha ha, now there's a mayor who knows how to relax. Can we impeach Mike Nutter and elect this guy?

The Rewards Of An Ivy League Education

Actual first sentence of a post on the opinion blog of the Daily Pennsylvanian, Penn's student newspaper:

A lot of people think that porn is only great because it gives people boners.

The rest of the post makes far less sense than that first sentence, which is more or less true. But more "pr0n" -- He really did that. He really called it "pr0n." -- posts are on the way, and I am psyched.

This Thing Could Be That Thing

071507sextour.png

Fun Fact!: The paper saying something like 82 percent of Internet traffic was porn was discredited. Internet porn probably doesn't take up a giant percentage of the Internet. The largest chunk of Internet traffic is stupid lolcat photos. TMYK.

Oh, yeah, this article also contains the first ever time the phrase "Romanian translator/pimp" has been used in the Inquirer, I am pretty sure.

NBC 10: There Is Porn On Them Thar Internets!

050207ronjeremy.jpg
Is it sweeps already? NBC 10 has not one but two stories about porn already this week, and we still have three days of the 11 o'clock news to go!

The first porn story is about the deep dark seedy shocking revelation that -- gasp! -- porn is being made right here in Philadelphia.

Somehow, the story begins with a viewer angered she's getting porn spam text messages. NBC 10 traces them to -- where else? -- the National Watch & Diamond Exchange on 8th Street. Uh, let's just let NBC 10 explain their Woodward & Bernstein work they let a viewer do for them:

The NBC 10 Investigators found out that one of the Web sites that sent her a text message was R.S. Duffy in Philadelphia.

The address for R.S. Duffy on South Eighth Street was actually home a National Watch & Diamond Exchange jewelry store. It appeared our search had hit a dead end.

Then, computer savvy viewer Noah Webster called us saying, "I saw your story on NBC 10."

"Within half an hour, I found the actual owners," Webster said.

Philly.com Passes On Way To Drive People To Site

Yesterday, Philly.com apparently had an ad on its website advertising "free porn", according to mydigimedia:

041207jasner-porn.jpg

The ad, if you can't read it, links to "free porn." (You'll note Phil Jasner is on the page with the porn ad. Previously, the only to sit next to porn ads was Rich Hoffman.)

Anyway, Philly.com's executive producer wrote in and said the whole thing was a mistake and Philly.com is no longer offering free porn. Because if there's one thing the Internet should not be used for, it's pornography.

Now on Philly.com: Free Porn!!! [mydigimedia]

Archaeological Dig Shows Hardships Of Ancestors

041007sears.jpg
In preparation for the widening of a road, archaeologists are doing a dig at a site in Middletown, Del. A University of Delaware professor says they're learning much about tenant farmers in the 19th and 20th centuries from the excavation. They're even correcting misconceptions.

But they're also learning about the hardships they faced back in ye olde times.

During the federally mandated dig at the site of the state Department of Transportation's Choptank Road widening project near Middletown, workers have found the foundation of a farmhouse. They've also found objects ranging from an ax to a Sears catalog.

You see that? Instead of a constant stream of free Internet porn, people in the olden days had to use the Sears catalog. And you don't even want to know what the ax was for.

Judge: You Can Pry Internet Porn From My Cold, Dead Hands

032307jenna.jpg
Whoo! Internet porn is now free to, uh, roam the Internet!

Yesterday, a federal judge right here in Freedom City itself, Philadelphia, struck down the 1998 Child Online Protection Act (COPA), writing he "may not turn a blind eye to the law in order to attempt to satisfy my urge to protect this nation's youth by upholding a flawed statute." Awws yeah!

And, then, he laid out this beautiful sentence:

"Indeed, perhaps we do the minors of this country harm if First Amendment protections, which they will with age inherit fully, are chipped away in the name of their protection."

Oh snap! Let all of us -- the porn stars, the porn consumers, the free-speech lovers -- use our free speech to praise one U.S. District Judge Lowell A. Reed Jr. today.

School District With Alleged Naked Meth Dealer As Principal Unfairly Reported On By Local Newspaper

John Acerra
Alleged meth-dealin', gay porn-watchin', sex toy-ownin', naked principal John Acerra isn't the only alleged perpetrator in the case of the principal who dealt meth, watched gay porn, had sex toys and was naked all in his office.

No, according to the superintendent of the Bethlehem Area School District, Joseph Lewis, the whole thing is just an evil plot by the Allentown Morning Call. Or, rather, the whole thing isn't an evil plot, but the newspaper isn't helping.

In a story late last week, the paper reported the head of the teachers' union expressed concern about Acerra's absences, including one just five days before the principal was arrested for dealing meth from his office after hours. (He never sold any drugs to kids, huzzah.)

And the paper also asked Lewis for a comment:

In a phone interview, Lewis declined to talk about Acerra's record as an administrator. "That is none of your business," he said. "You can dig all you want. I'm a little tired of how The Morning Call is besmirching this district." Then he hung up.

Ha. Fantastic. The newspaper must be angry he's accusing them of besmirching the district (whatever) and then hanging up. Wait, what? Okay, I'll read the editorial from the same day.

Give credit to Superintendent Joseph Lewis for directing a straightforward response.

Wharton Prof. Pleads Guilty To Kiddie Porn

022107kiddieporn.png
Yesterday, Wharton professor L. Scott Ward -- who was "retired" but still had an office in posh Huntsman Hall and still taught classes -- pled guilty to a federal charge of producing child pornography abroad, including videos where he had sex with a boy somewhere between 14 and 16 years old.

He faces between 15 and 30 years in prison. Ward hadn't been convicted of screwing any underage boys when he became a professor at Wharton in 1980, though Penn still allowed him to continue teaching at Penn after a 1999 conviction for soliciting sex from a state trooper posing as a 15-year-old boy. That case wasn't serious enough for Penn. But, hey, while at Penn Scott Ward was involved in projects in the Philippines and had a visiting appointment to Chulalongkorn University in Thailand.

Penn did, however, get rid of two employees who were convicted sex offenders last month. And the school said it will re-examine its hiring practices. But since the other Ivy League schools don't do background checks, Penn won't be adopting that process anytime soon.

Eh, man. This is no fun. Can't Milton Street say something funny and we can get back to hilarious news?

Kids Don't Have To Steal Playboys Anymore

020507shocked.jpg
KYW 1060 reports that a recent study came to some some horrible, bone-chilling conclusions: Teens find porn online.

Gasp! The study in the February issue of Pediatrics reports 42 percent of Internet users ages 10-17 have seen porn online, and 66 percent weren't even looking for it. Porn! Sex! On the Internet! And our children see it! Just wait until the TV stations pick up this report!

There are a couple conclusions one can draw from the study: One, about 50 percent or so of Internet users aged 10-17 lied and said they had never seen Internet porn. Two... well, I guess that's it. Porn in our kids' hands: Who knew such a thing was possible?

A Tiger In The Sack

011806tigercub.jpg
That little furball of cuteness at right most certainly would bring in the crowds to a zoo. And, as such, the Philadelphia Zoo is attempting to create its own little giant-pawed 'aww' machine to bring in the crowds. (Maybe not the same tiger species as the one in the photo, but here's the deal: I don't care.)

Okay, so the zoo isn't mating its tigers for monetary reasons. But the zoo did attempt to mate two of its Amur tigers earlier this week. The species is down to just about 400 in the wild and 144 in captivity, but mating the tigers is dangerous, since, instead of having sex, the two could end up attacking each other. The male, Dimitri, could kill the female, Kira, in just about two minutes.

But we all got a treat: The Inquirer was there to document the hot tiger sex.

The result is, basically, tiger porn.

Smut Lands Strong Right Hook On Cherry Hill

121206kidsplaying.jpg
121206adultvideostore.jpg

Cherry Hill's heroic fight against smut appears to have hit a snag yesterday, as the town's council approved four zones in town where adult businesses can legally be located.

The dispute started when an adult video store was slated to open on Route 70. Neighbors who live near to Route 70 didn't want it there, so they complained until porn shops were pretty much banned from any spot in the city. This is against the constitution, and the adult video store owner Jim Restaino sued, and so yesterday the four zones where an adult biz can be located were created. And now the people who live near those four zones are pissed.

They're so pissed, they've made the awesome graphics you see above.

And at least one person is asking, well, why can't it just be on Route 70 after all:

Alexius Steinman said Restaino should be allowed to open his Romantic Video & Boutique at the Route 70 location. "By putting it in a safe area, you're going to attract safe clientele," said Steinman. Steinman, who frequents Restaino's Mount Laurel location, described the store as "very clean, very tidy, well lit and well staffed," which makes female customers such as herself and other responsible adults who like to experiment sexually feel comfortable. Put these stores in industrial parks and on back roads and the result will be less desirable people, she said before the meeting.

Ahh, constitutional freedom to experiment sexually. God Bless America. Now when are the Cherry Hill residents going to open up that website taking photos of all the adult video store's customers? I'd like to get on it.

With Liberty And Porn For All

111306britney.jpg
Philadelphia's Wi-Fi network will be the Internet the way it's supposed to be: Full of pornography.

Wireless Philadelphia has decided that it will not block access to pornographic sites. Hallelujah!

KYW 1060 reports that when Culver City, Calf., found out most people were using the free Wi-Fi network to visit porn or piracy sites -- but of course! -- it installed filters. But Philly is going at this Internet thing au natural:

“We’re trying to create the opportunities for people here, without limiting anyone’s ability to take full advantage of the Internet. Because once you start putting those things (filters) in, you could potentially be limiting people’s access to important opportunities as well.”

Yep. The important goal of having naked Philly chicks exposing themselves on webcam's over the city's Wi-Fi. If the city can develop a free, citywide credit card processing system, this city's economy will be rejuvenated.

If Ashcroft Was Still Attorney General, Maybe

102406ch-together.jpg
It's been a little bit since we all looked at the Cherry Hill porn shop, i.e. Cherry Hill residents upset that a shop selling porn and sex toys is going to open in their town.

Since we last saw our heroes and heroines making the charge against porn, they've opened an official website, which includes the graphic at right. (Apparently, their membership includes chefs, architects (or something) and jobs that require suits! The Camden County freeholders have also spoken up against the porn shop.

Not to pick on the smut-hatin' New Jerseyans, but the group's newest tactic, posted to the group's messageboard, might not help all that much, unfortunately for them:

In the meantime, I have chosen my own route with the inspiration of our community- with the many emails and fantastic ideas from our members, I sat down this morning and wrote a letter to the White house- as Sean mentioned this should be a state wide law not just a community law. We need to go above all heads and target this for all states and communities who are exposed to this type of set up in their own neighborhoods. We are FED UP- and if enough letters get to the white house, we will be guarantee'd that at least one of them will be read and considered.

Please write a letter and send it to the following.

Come Front Of Me: The Muhammad Shaukat Story

Yesterday, the citizens of Philadelphia were introduced to Muhammad Shaukat, the newsstand operator outside the Public Ledger building who, after being told to cover up his porn magazines, put up a sign that read, in part, "I gone a fuck his mother, sister, wife... who complain my newsstand. Come front of me."

I gone a fuck his mother, sister, wife! Come front of me! (Looks like I have some new catchphrases.)

Last night, Fox 29 Fox 29 chatted with Muhammad over his porn mags and his sign threatening to rape someone.

Read on for some thoughts about our boy Muhammad and his porn. Come front of me, too.

Porn: Okay. Threatening Rape: Not Okay.

101906playboy.jpg
Newsstand operator Muhammad Shaukat, like most vendors, sold porn. He sold Playboy and Penthouse and maybe some of those specialty titles, too.

Problem was, he had them displayed front and center. And his newsstand was right in front of the public ledger building, in touristy Independence Mall. Legally, he was probably on solid ground, but, naturally, people complained and L&I told him to tone it down.

Now, a smart businessman would probably realize that if he stood his ground, he could end up in a long legal fight which he couldn't afford. A smart businessman would probably move the mags to the back of the newsstand, put up one of those barriers where you could only see the titles, etc.

But, well, Shaukat apparently isn't the smartest businessman in the world:

After inspectors told Shaukat to rein in his wares, DiCicco said, "He posted a sign saying that he would rape and kill anyone who interfered with the operation of his newsstand."

Shaukat, who said he went into vending because of an eye condition, responded, "I'm not bothering anybody. Everybody sells those magazines."

His sign said, in part, "I gone a f--- his mother, sister, wife or her... who complain my newsstand. Come front of me."

And now, naturally, City Council is going to pass a bill banning vending around the area where his newsstand was. Whoops.

Cherry Hill Residents Continue Heroic Fight Against Store Planning To Sell Vibrators To Single Girls

101006smut.jpg
Yesterday, Cherry Hill mayor Bernie Platt gave his surprise new plan to stop the porn store that's causing such an uproar.

And his new plan? Well... turns out... he doesn't have one. Yes, despite holding a rally near the store's proposed location, and saying he was going to have a new plan (or, at least that's what Action News said), he simply spouted off random cliches such about saving the children and drawing lines in sand:

"On behalf of our residents, our children and grandchildren, I am drawing a line in the sand and announcing that this township's government will vigorously fight the presence of such a moral blight on our community and its values."

Children, values, moral blight. Yep, he's got all the talking points down. Residents, though, aren't all that happy with the mayor, since he's still sort of talking in generalities and not coming up with any ideas for action, aside from drawing lines in metaphorical sand.

On their Yahoo! message board, the residents -- who are "together" against "smut" (fun word!) -- are chronicling their problems with the Geocities website they've been unable to keep up. But, they're making plans for a new one -- they even wrote a "check," whatever that is -- and, hopefully, if the store opens they'll make good on that promise to photograph everyone going in.

I plan to stand right next to them, handing out free t-shirts with this site's URL on the back. Hey, you can't beat that kind of publicity.

Cherry Hill Wants Pervs, Single Women, All Men Out

100906customer.jpg
Brace yourselves, Cherry Hill residents: A porn shop is opening in your town! Ooooh, scary.

Well, wait, you already knew, since youse have been protesting since first getting word of the possible store. Romantic Video and Boutique wants to open a location on Route 70, but Cherry Hill has an ordinance banning adult stores within a million feet (or something) of schools and bus stops, and therefore have essentially banned such stores. The owner is suing, blah blah blah. You know the drill, right?

The mayor said he would fight the store if it "means lying down in front of Route 70." Of course, some residents don't think the mayor has done enough, so hey've come up with another plan:

And it appears the township and residents are taking the gloves off. If the courts rule the adult store can go in, they plan to photograph those who go into it and post the pictures on a yet to be made website. Mayor Platt says the website will be run by residents, but the township is in the process of hiring an attorney.

It's official: Cherry Hill spends its tax dollars better than any other community in the country. The mayor has a new plan -- blow up the building? ban sex stores within 100 miles of the mayor? -- that he'll be unveiling at a job-saving (he hopes, at least) press conference later today. Good to see we all still have a really healthy attitude toward sex in this country.

The Dark Side Of Work Porn

090106email.png
NBC 10 reports today on the tale of a high school assistant principal fired from his job for getting porn emails at work.

But the school says he was fired because of how he responded to the emails:

Authorities said [David] Wong wrote: "This is good. My eyes, my eyes have forsaken me and that's good stuff."

CEP provided e-mails to NBC 10 with e-mails to prove their case.

"Why would you say that's good stuff?" [Lu Ann] Cahn asked.

"Meaning that the picture that was sent to me was a very attractive woman and it was my first response -- that's good stuff right there, not meaning to keep sending them to me every day," Wong said.

"But don't you think when you send, 'That's good stuff,' that was encouraging the sender to send you more?" Cahn asked.

"That was more of me trying to fit in with the culture of that school," Wong said.

Now, that's a high school you want to go to: One where porn is treated like a religious experience.
