Philly.com Comment Of The Day
"tarnished career" is a term made up by the media to sell stories let the man live.....I bet if NY Times said we want you....You'd go and it would "tarnish your career" This proves that a women's place is in the kitchen... *slaps Christine on the ass* Now go make me my dinner woman!
That's on Christine Flowers' Friday column, which was about Brett Favre, so I didn't read it. Why Flowers is writing about the new Jets quarterback, and what her point is, I do not know. Please don't tell me.
Another commenter writes: "christine i find you very attractive woman-lonewolf." Yes, every woman gets harassed on the Internet, you should all know this by now.
Update: For pending additional comment hilarity, I suggest you follow this thread.

LOVE Triangle Leads To Fatal Stabbing
Um, yeah: Yesterday, two women were arguing over Tony Stewart (not the race car driver) in LOVE Park, when
one of the women fatally stabbed the other.
As far as I can remember, this is what precipitated the renovation of the park to make it "unskateboardable." No, wait, that was just a bunch of suburban kids who pissed off John Street because they brought a major week-long event to the city (and were white). Well, whatever. Here's the details from yesterday:
Cops said that the squabble reached a tipping point at about 3 p.m., when Stewart's homeless girlfriend, Yvette Prince, slugged her rival in the head. The other woman, also homeless, jumped up and plunged a knife into Prince's chest.
Prince, 45, died of her injuries at Hahnemann University Hospital at 4:54 p.m., investigators said. The unidentified stabber, who is in her 50s, was taken into police custody, but charges were not filed as of last night.

Golf And War Cure All Depression
Yesterday, the
Daily News finally got the story of why Eagles' offensive lineman Shawn Andrews was missing training camp; he's been battling depression. (
Here's today's follow-up.)
We all knew that there would be at least one comment on Philly.com complaining that Andrews was a rich guy who was depressed. No sense even getting worked up about it (not that it would stop anyone). But who knew that it would be so freaking awesome?
Another millionaire who's depressed! Let me tell you about my world Shaun: I am an Air Force reservist who has done two tours in Iraq and one in Afghanistan. In between tours, I work a full time job, carry a mortgage, have managed to put 3 of my 4 children through college without them incurring too much personal debt, and now my fourth goes next year. You know what I get up every day, do my job, have fun and even occasionally get a round of golf in. I know it's tough playing a kids game everyday and making a million dollers doing it but maybe just maybe you could get up off you fat, lazy, a__ and get to work. Depressed my a___!
Man, Shawn, can't you just get on to the golf course and feel all better about yourself? The nerve.

Philly.com Continues Baiting Its Readers
Philly.com's current previous front is devoted to Karen Heller's column on cheesesteaks. Heller's column is mostly a recap of the recent hilarious Internet drama-style cheesesteak war in City Council, but veers off at the end into a discussion about why the cheesesteak is annoying. Heller proposes the city's sandwich be a "roast pork Italian with aged provolone and broccoli rabe." (Hmm. A bit wordy for my taste, though I do appreciate any sort of attack on cheesesteaks, the most overdone Philly thing besides Rocky.)
There isn't any new Alycia Lane or Kidd Chris news, so Philly.com plastered this on the front page. And now there are over 100 comments. And they're pretty typical of the website with the world's stupidest readers; my favorite is, "Next person who tries to defend this woman will find me outside of their residence/place of business w/ a tire iron and a determination to 'keep it real.'"
We're coming up on even slower news days -- both later this week and in the news-dry month of August. John Carroll and I came up with some future front-page topics for Philly.com, which you can read below. These are sure to attract a ton of comments.

Philly.com To Merge With Stormfront.org
So it's been a day since Philly.com allowed people to comment on a story about the subway attacks. And, man, were the comments hilarious. And almost none of them -- besides the one above, done by the username KKK -- were deleted!
This is probably because there aren't enough people working at Philly.com to police all the comments. But let's go with the sexier explanation: Philly.com is more than willing to cater to racist pricks calling for the extermination of all black people if they bring traffic to the site. Great product you got there, guys!

Experts: 100% Of Philly.com Readers Racist
Let's play a game today, shall we? Philly.com's lead story right now is about after-school policing on SEPTA. (30 new cops!) I haven't written much about the subway attacks despite being a regular subway rider (from Center City!) because it's a SEPTA story I can't really blame SEPTA 100 percent for. And that's no fun.
We all care about El safety now because a white person died, so SEPTA is adding 30 cops to police the subway between 2 and 5 p.m. (How many will be at York-Dauphin station, I wonder.) Philly.com currently has it as its lead story and (oh no) they are allowing people to write comments. After yesterday's Sierra Leone boy/Chris Wheeler fiasco, one can only assume roughly 200 percent of the comments posted to this story will contain code words old white people say because they can't say "nigger" in polite society anymore. Aww, too bad, white people!
Anyway, let's track this comment thread throughout the day. it's already at a critical mass where I believe comments will start to be deleted, and then people will cry censorship and wah wah wah. It's like the Courier-Post comments section all over again!

Cole Hamels Is Not Friends With Homeowners' Association
While the so-called "Main Stream Media" was asleep at the switch, the commenters on Philly.com were
on the case on the truth about Cole Hamels.
Sure, he was perfect through 6 innings, retiring the first 18 batters he faced, in Wednesday's 6-2 win over the Milwaukee Brewers. But how does he treat his fellow man? Pretty shitty, according to the comments. All of them have been removed, but I'll share the earth-shattering revelation that sparked the debate over Cole Hamels' personal life yesterday.
I usually hate postings like this, but this was too good to not share: my sister is a nurse at a hospital two miles from Citizens Bank. A doctor who she works with told her that her next door neighbor knows Cole Hamels personally and that he is a real jerk. Despite the homeowners association rules, he puts out his grass clippings on Sunday night even though trash pickup isn't until Wednesday. Everyone in the community has to drive around his trash all day Monday and Tuesday. Not cool.
Using the time-honored journalistic source of a nurse near Citizens Bank (Park, I assume) who knows a doctor who has a neighbor who knows Cole Hamels, commenter ksmags gets the "inside scoop" on Mr. Hamels, making sure we all know his neighbors have to carry his trash around the neighborhood on Mondays and Tuesdays for some reason. And Cole Hamels eats like 15 deer a week, so I bet his bags are heavy. Hamels should know, however, that he should bring his garbage bags out to the field with him like every other major league player. Prima donna.
This Hamels comment came directly after this groundbreaking comment from Curly: "Feets don't fail me now! WOOB WOOB WOOB WOOB!!!"

Struck out by Philly.com comments
Undaunted by the Washington Post's big blog comment scandal where they, uhm, deleted comments or something -- in reality, not quite at the level of Janet Cooke, but this is the digital age and they just don't make scandals like they used to -- Philly.com has rolled out comments, but from what I can see, only on two stories, the second grader who brought crack into school and the mayor announcing the citywide wi-fi plans.
The latter only as a few comments, a few questions and this rant against Mayor Street:
HELLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...am I the only one reading? The mayor is doing business as usual instead of worrying about the violence and drugs in our city. I am sure we can compete with any city when it comes to technology so this really can wait. Our communities are plagued with drugs and violence and he IS NOT doing a thing to stop it! I AM NOT VOTING FOR HIM AGAIN!
Yeah. I'm not voting for him, either. You know, since he can't run again.
The drug story comments are pretty much a mix of blaming the parents, a little race discussion and some questions that aren't in the story -- really, not as bad as you'd expect. Then there's this:
I'm moving to Philly when I get out. Sounds like you kids know how to party.
