Obama Shockingly Answers Question
Above: The bottom half of Friday's Philadelphia Gay News cover.
Aw. It looks like the
Philadelphia Gay News daily email annoyance is over, as Publisher Mark Segal emailed over the weekend to let everyone know his one question for Barack Obama has been answered, "thanks to our friends at Capitol wire."
And, guess what? Obama would advise those "Pennsylvania Democrat State Senator's" to vote no on the anti-gay marriage amendment to the state constitution, just like everyone already knew.
It's good the Gay News finally had this question answered before Barack Obama dies of his untreated syphilis, which he's had for almost 1600 days.

'Gay News' Clumsily Dogging Obama
Ha ha, remember when the Philadelphia Gay News' coverage of Obama not giving them an interview wasn't annoying? That's impossible, actually, since it was always annoying. But the front page last week was pretty clever, so I ran with that instead.
Since Monday, PGN Publisher Mark Segal has been sending out an email to various press people detailing the one question the paper has for Obama. I'm not quite sure why I'm getting it; I don't know Senator Obama and I don't think I can get him to answer this one question:
How would you advise Pennsylvania Democrat State Senator's to vote on The Anti Gay Marriage Legislation before them NOW.
You know what? I think the grammar needs to be cleaned up a bit before Obama will answer that question. Gawd, there isn't a big enough red pen to correct that sentence.
Update: OMG someone has posted in the comments that Philebrity made fun of the same emails we got first. Alert the authorities!

'Gay News' Runs Cover Of The Year
Today's Philadelphia Gay News cover is simply fantastic. PGN publisher Mark Segal tells The Daily Examiner Obama hasn't spoken to the gay press since 2004, which is "not acceptable" to him.
I suppose this is as good a time as any to remind you that Barack Obama has been on 610 WIP twice in the last month.

'Gay News' Continues To Show Its Worth
The front-page story quotes Falwell:
"If you and I do not speak up now, this homosexual steamroller will literally crush all decent men, women and chidlren who get in its way and our nation will pay a terrible price."
Also in the Philadelphia Gay News this week, this lead on the story I really haven't been writing about enough:
An on-duty Philadelphia police officer forced another man to perform oral sex until ejaculation took place last March, the alleged victim testified at a preliminary hearing May 15.
This is the important hole the Gay News fills in our local media. What other newspaper would let you know the head continued until ejaculation?

Tom Knox: Gays Play Hard, Work Harder
The
Philadelphia Gay News ran question-and-answers with the candidates in last week's issue and the results were kind of interesting. Michael Nutter doesn't support same-sex marriage, though he supports giving all the benefits of marriage to same-sex couples.
Dwight Evans supports abstinence-only education, while Bob Brady's answer to that question was: "I support all education on any level." Evans did give my favorite answer to any question, in response to a query if he had any gay staffers: "I don’t know. I’ve never asked."
But the best answer to that or any question certainly comes from Tom Knox:
Yes. I have gays working both on the campaign and in the workplace. Gays tend to be studious workers.
"And Asians, man, are they ever so smart. I hire a lot of them. Italians make-a the good pasta, and if I had a bar, I'd love having Irish customers, since they drink so much. And if I ever buy a basketball team, you know I'm going to have a ton of black people on it!"

Whole Foods Sweeps 'Gay News' Awards
The
Philadelphia Gay News unveils its first-ever "Pink Penny" awards in this week's issue, a feature that apparently
celebrates the best of Philadelphia in approximately 5,000 categories. It took the paper this long to figure out that if you do a "Best Of" issue, there's a chance other newspapers will write about you, therefore getting you attention.
Okay, I actually counted 148, which is even more than the number of murders so far this year in Philadelphia (99 at last count). Of course, there's some overlap in these awards, so naturally there are a few repeats, but the number one winner is most definitely Whole Foods, which took first place in three (3) categories: Free samples (grocery store); Best supermarket to cruise for young, hottie queer women; Catering dinner for 12. The first category went to both Whole Foods at 2001 Pennsylvania Ave. and 929 South St.; the other two only went to the South Street location.
I think my favorite category is "Tourist trap to take your out-of-town family (whom you don’t like)," which naturally goes to Ride the Ducks. Though I guess I would have gone with Super Ducks for the Milton Street factor.

'Gay News' Asks The Tough Questions
Metro may get the majority of the person-on-the-street mentions here, but for the best interviews, the Philadelphia Gay News might take the cake. Here's today's.

Kids Nowadays Can't Scuffle Without Making Front-Page News
It was a slow news week for gays. And why not? Now that the Republicans -- well, some of them, anyway -- have decided that demonizing illegal immigrants, not gays, is the way to shore up the base, there just really wasn't much gay political news this week. And the Mass. ruling on not allowing out-of-state gay couples to marry didn't break until yesterday, seemingly too late for this week's paper.
That slow news week led to this article, on the front page of the new edition of the Philadelphia Gay News today:
A disturbance occurred the evening of March 23 outside of The Attic Youth Center, 255 S. 16th St. According to police reports, an 18-year-old female claimed that a male bumped into her at 6:52 p.m while she was tying her sneaker. The incident was coded as a disturbance. No charges were filed.
In response to being pushed, the female punched the male and his friends began fighting with her friend, police said. During the scuffle, pepper spray was released. The male and his acquaintances fled before the police arrived. Complainants and witnesses said they knew the other youths.
Police later found the suspects at the corner of Broad and Spruce streets.
The victim and her friends could not identify the person who released the spray. Though no formal charges were filed, the 18-year-old can file a private criminal complaint with the District Attorney’s office.
So, basically, a kid bumped into another kid and they fought. That's front page material!

Nope, sorry, going to have to do better than that

I added in that helpful word "gay" with the proofreading mark above. Without it, it seems like marriage is illegal in Jersey, which, if true, would probably make it the most populous state in the union, since every single person would want to live there.
Then again, maybe not. The real factoid learned from the above man-on-the-street inerview from the Philadelphia Gay News, however, is this: New Jersey can't do anything -- not even legalizing gay marriage -- to make someone want to do anything but visit there.

Quickies: Hellos and goodbyes and birthdays
• I just got forwarded an email from Charles Bennison, Jr. (left), the Espicopal Bishop of the Diocese Pennsylvania, that says he was asked to resign effective March 31. He writes that "if you felt that I were not leading the diocese effectively and asked me to resign, I would pray about it, and, if I felt it were God's will, I would do so. I am seriously praying about the Standing Committee's request, and I ask that you pray for me, for our colleagues throughout the diocese, and above all for the unity and health of our diocese." As a Catholic, I'm not sure if this is a huge deal, but make of it what you will. The full email is after the jump.
• According to his Myspace profile, indie rock and Princeton basketball guru Jon Solomon will be producing a biweekly podcast featuring local artists called "Local Support" for PW competitor Citypaper starting in March. Looks like I need to saddle up. Or, you know, we can all coexist in this here "Internet" thing. [Myspace]

• Also, today, none other than Mozart is 250. In, uhm, less fun news, it's also Holocaust Memorial Day. And while the Apollo 1 disaster killed three astronauts 39 years ago today, the Challenger was nice enough to wait a day and not add to the bummers remembered today. [Wikipedia]

Michael Irvin, for instance
It's not just for the Metro anymore. The first response to this week's man-on-the-street interview in the Philadelphia Gay News:

Not to doubt your earlier statement, but, uhm, dude. Nobody's ever thought of cowboys as gay before? Whatever.
