Apparently, I'm A Sadist: Phillies Liveblog

Hey, after last night's liveblog was such a smashing success, let's have some more fun with a good old-fashioned baseball liveblog. (The baseball liveblog was invented by Abner Doubleday.)

The Phillies, now 7-8 and still missing Jimmy Rollins 'til at least Saturday, play the final game of their series against the Houston Astros. After a ridiculous comeback on Tuesday, the Phillies lost 2-1 yesterday with ex-Phillie Michael Bourn scoring both Astros runs.

Hey, Why Not? Phillies-Mets Liveblog

We all know what happened last year. The Mets were 7 games up in the final month of the season and somehow managed to lose the division to the Phillies, of all teams. For good measure the Phils went 12-6 against the Mets last season, the exact same record the Fightins had against the Washington Nationals.

It's the last Shea Stadium home opener as the Mets move in to Citifield -- yes, that's what it's called -- next season. The Phils have beaten the Mets eight straight times and swept 'em three times last season. I believe this is what we call a "baseball rivalry." I know we haven't had one in so long it's hard to figure out how to act, but let's all get ready to boo the Mets out of their stirrups today, even if it's just in front of your computer.

Phillies Liveblog: Phils Go For Loss #3 Of 62

Hey, the Phillies are going to win 100 games, didn't you hear Jimmy Rollins before the season? Last night, the local baseball nine managed only one hit against the Nationals' Tim Redding, Luis Ayala and Jon Rauch, also known as Walter Johnson, Cy Young and Grover Cleveland Alexander. The Phils lost, 1-0, in a game that lasted just 2 hours and 15 minutes. Nobody was happy. ARAMARK had to stop selling beer by around 8:30.

The fans also threw "debris" on the field after the game, because it was a college night. Shane Victorino just said it showed a "lack of respect for the players, lack of respect for the sport, lack of respect for the stadium." Oh, yes, let us show some respect for the prefabricated brick palace!

Jamie Moyer pitches for the Phillies today. The former teammate of Connie Mack goes up against Jason Bergmann wearing the new alternate uniform! I'll be liveblogging after the jump; the game starts a little after 1.

State of the Union Liveblog

It's about 15 minutes before the State of the Union address, and I have one question: Is this thing in high definition?

Yes, for a combined Christmas-birthday present I got an HDTV for my apartment. It's nice. And bigger than I thought. And right now I'm watching American Idol in high def -- and, well, the remote is all the way at the other end of the couch, so I'm planning on staying on Fox 29 for the SOTU as well. So is it in HD?

Eff what Dubya wants to say about health care or Iran or how squeamish he gets when he thinks about two guys doing each other. I only have one question before the State of the Union, and I'm just wondering if it's in HD.

Also, lots of fat people have been made fun of on Idol tonight, and I'm expecting plenty of complaint press releases from the National Fat People Coalition or whatever.

Either way, join me here! A little before 9 p.m.! On Tuesday Tuesday Tuesday! For the State of the Union liveblog! I have a can of Yuengling with me, but no drinking games here: I plan on having half of it done at the end of this stupid speech. In the meantime, Matt Donegan has a new blog post up -- and it's predictably awesome -- and somebody invited Cindy Sheehan to the SOTU. Oh, snap. Okay, one drinking game: If Sheehan rushes the stage, I'll finish my beer.
