In a post about unsafe taxi drivers, legendary Philadelphia newsman Larry Kane lets this little gem slip:
I occasionally take a cab, although I prefer rail lines and city buses.
Whoa, whoa, whoa. Larry Kane rides the bus? Good for him, I guess, but, um, really? I don’t think Ringo rides the bus.
Anyway, with this new information I’ve devised a new ad campaign for SEPTA that is sure to be a hit.

Might as well post this now: Earlier today, Barack Obama’s camp accidentally sent out an email to the entire press list that was the contents of an email exchange between Famous Journalist Larry Kane and people from Barack Obama’s camp.
Here was the absolute best thing to ever be written in an email by anyone anywhere ever:
janet is in touch with you concerning getting Barack on Lynn Doyle’s show. I work with Comcast (hav my own show) and want to tell you that this show reaches ALL 67 counties in Pa… ITS A GREAT ONE
Secondly : I would like a 15 minute one on one with Sen Obama for KYW Newsradio. Anytime. Easy to do. Let me know… This will get super wide play because I’ll be involved.
Once again. don’t forget the union endorsements, this is for a commentary I’m doing tomorrow
Always with the union endorsements! Lynn Doyle mentioned in an email by Larry Kane accidentally sent out by Barack Obama’s staff as Monday’s “Daily Digest” is just about Philadelphia Will Do hilarity overload. I seriously just got high off typing that sentence. Oh, this is better than even runner’s high.

Hey, Larry Kane has done an “analysis” for KYW 1060 on Bob Casey’s endorsement of Barack Obama! Apparently they’re good friends in the Senate (plus, uh, Obama is going to win and Casey can maybe land a sweet gig later).
And then there’s this!
But there’s an inside story of what happened here, and it goes back to 1982.
The late Robert Patrick Casey, governor of Pennsylvania at the time, asked for a few moments from the Clinton forces to speak at the Democratic National Convention in New York City about his pro-life views. He wanted to show that there were other views on abortion in the Democratic Party.
He was denied that access despite pleas from James Carville and Sen. Harris Wofford. Casey — father of the current senator — was bitter and angry, and he carried that bitterness to his death as he forged ahead with his pro-life views across the country.
That was never forgotten by the Casey family, and you could say that this endorsement is somewhat of a payback politically — but also a sincere endorsement on the part of the younger Bob Casey.
Hey, Zombie Robert Casey forced his son to endorse Barack Obama! It’s nice they’re at least listening to a dead man besides Jesus for once. Glad to see the elder Casey was bitter until his death, too.

Larry Kane’s blog continues to impress and entertain, especially when he’s being hated by commenters. (See also.)
He’s bashed in the comments today on another recent post, but maybe it’s because he says he likes Joe Lieberman — who likes Joe Lieberman politically? — and for some reason he thinks pretty much every Democrat has a shot at the VP spot:
Lieberman stands for what is right about America. He has conviction, is not a flip flopper, and he has courage…. I don’t think McCain would tap him for VP, but if he did, Joltin Joe would be the first person to run for that position for both parties. [...] Local Names That Might Be On Everyone’s Short List For VEEP: Joe Biden, Ed Rendell, Jon Corzine. For the GOP - Tom Ridge.
Yes, and Rudy Guiliani might still take that Republican nomination; I bet he’ll select Ron Paul as his running mate.

Hey, you know how Arlen Specter is going to destroy the NFL for the benefit of Comcast or whatever? Yeah, well he’s taking his damn Congressional time on it, still not having talked to NFL commish Roger Goodell.
Specter says he’s tried to call, but maybe Goodell gave him a wrong number or something. The NFL sez Goodell will meet with Specter in sunny Hawaii, during the Pro Bowl, perhaps? Fortunately, Specter says all of this could lead to Congressional hearings, which is just a-okay with Television Legend Larry Kane who writes on his magical blog that Specter is right and people attacking him are incorrect. He also begins a paragraph like this:
Also, sports fans.
Anyway, if you head over to Larry Kane’s blog, try to be nice and coherent. Inane comments may fly on the blog of a 12-year-old like myself, but Kane is having a little problem with Hitler comments. No, really:
After the football game, I checked my email and was shocked to find some notes that had come through this website. They were from people who listened to my rather tame conversation on the radio earlier in the day. The language was so foul and hateful, it surprised even me, a veteran of 50 years in newsrooms. The reference to my religion were disgusting.
Welcome to the Internet, Larry! That’s all it is: Anti-semites, racists and porn. Ain’t technology grand?

Yesterday, veteran Philadelphia newsman Larry Kane blogged about the reaction to his comments on Giants coach Tom Coughlin and how the post got more traffic than anything else he’s ever posted on the site.
After Giants kicker Lawrence Tynes missed the first of two field goals in the fourth quarter, Coughlin screamed at his kicker on the sideline. And Larry Kane was having none of it, writing “his actions diminish sports in general.” I’m not sure how Coughlin yelling at his kicker diminishes my daily run, but whatevs.
Well, apparently, it generated a lot of responses and Kane realized he could get another post just by writing about the comments. He’s getting this blogging this down pat already!

I really thought I was alone in being opposed to the Scott Graham departure from the Phillies’ announcing team, but apparently I am not.
From none other than Larry Kane’s blog (emphasis not mine):
As a broadcaster, I appreciate the announcers who broadcast sports, especially those who can give you that visual picture, even when it is on the radio. Outside of Harry Kalas, no one did it better than Scott Graham!
The best play-by-play man in town is Merrill Reese. There is no one even close. In a way, Graham was becoming to baseball what Merrill became to Eagles football in his early years. Graham was the natural successor to Harry. But that will not happen, because the Phillies have made a bad decision.
For some reason, the Phillies fail to interpret what is good and bad in this town. The rehiring of Manager Charlie Manuel was a big mistake. The beating of a Philadelphia cop by player Jason Michaels in 2005 was handled badly, along with the domestic dispute involving Brett Myers.
Now Scott Graham has been given his walking papers.
But Graham should have stayed. He was hardly the weakest link in a Phillies broadcast team that can, unwillingly, put you to sleep on some nights.
It is too bad the Phillies didn’t understand the impact of Scott Graham. The fans do.
You know, I was planning on comparing Scott Graham’s departure with the Phillies’ handling of Brett Myers’ arrest for wifebeating, but then somebody went and beat me to it.
