My TV Appearance, Annotated

051008dmac-annotated.jpg

So, yes, the segment on Fox 29 about Philadelphia bloggers -- and by that, I mean me and Johnny Goodtimes -- aired last night, and I've done a little guide to my favorite shot on last night's program. (You can click to enlarge.)

  • 1. One of you called it No Country for Old Men hair and my hairdresser said it looked like a hockey player's haircut. (Complete with playoff beard!) I prefer to think of it as the too-lazy-to-get-a-haircut look, but I finally got it cut short again on Tuesday. The beard will probably go soon, too, but, again: Laziness.
  • 2. These are the Dr. Seuss glasses one of you remarked on. I'm going to go get them straightened today, actually; also, they're hilariously Sean John brand classes.
  • 3. This is not a shirt a picked up at a thrift store, it is an actual 1998 Viking Invitational cross country shirt, a race I competed in. (I was have been a junior in high school.) I never seemed to do well in that race, so I guess I never really wore the shirt regularly until a few months ago. I'm sure my high school coaches are proud of me.
  • 4. One of the better things on my walls, this advertisement from around World War II is actually for Stetson hats, but the theme is "Keep it under your Stetson" -- as in, "Don't tell the enemy about the war plans. Wear Stetson hats!" Companies really need to start doing this style of advertisement again.
  • 5. This is my MacBook, my pride and joy. If only Apple products weren't shoddily constructed -- I believe they're made out of butter -- I would be marrying this thing.
  • 6. Strunk & White's The Elements of Style. Goodtimes accused me of putting this on top of my pile of books to make myself look smarter, but I pretty much re-read this thing every couple of months. If you're a writer and you don't have this book, go get it now, go get it now, go get it now. It's essentially the writers' bible.
  • 7. The rest of the books here are pretty awesome as well. The best title is, of course, Marijuana Myths, Marijuana Facts, but I'd also like to direct your attention to my proof of the new Lewis Black book, the copy of Jen Miller's The Jersey Shore: Atlantic City to Cape May, Hershel Walker's book about multiple personalities, Darren Daulton's book about how the world will end in 2012 and, of course, Drug Warriors and Their Prey: From Police Power to Police State, which I can also not recommend enough. It's probably the best-argued book I've ever read.
  • 8. This orange pen is the one I used to write-in Brian Hickey for First District Senate and Chrissmari for State Treasurer. Although you can't see the cup it's in, it has a 1996-97 Sixers schedule on it, the team's first season in what was then called the Corestates Center.
  • 9. Uh, this is the temperature, showing it was 53 degrees when my segment aired last night.

YouTube clip of the segment after the jump. Thanks to Kerri-Lee Halkett for actually doing a piece on me! On the TV!

Banished To 10 PM Friday Night!

050908klhdmac.jpg
Okay, the headline is a joke. But it's true: I've just found out I'll be on Fox 29's 10 p.m. news tonight blathering on about the Internet, complete with since-cut hockey player haircut.

If you have a life (unlike me) and won't be at home at 10 p.m. Friday night, I'll post the video of Kerri-Lee Halkett talking with me, Johnny Goodtimes and (I assume) other various bloggers.

V.P. Visits Check-Printing Place

050908cheney.jpg
Yes, we now have video evidence of Dick Cheney actually visiting a place that prints economic stimulus checks in order to show how great the economic stimulus checks are. Fox 29's Bruce Gordon then does some fancy math to show that the price of everything has gone up since the start of the year, and so our stimulus checks aren't really all that hot overall.

Redlasso video after the jump. And yes, this includes a semi-gratuitous Kerri-Lee Halkett intro. After she wrote this, every video from now on will feature KLH.

Cleanup A Success No Thanks To Me

040808verizonnutter.jpg
Michael Nutter was scheduled to announce this morning the citywide cleanup Saturday was a success; if cleanliness is next to godliness, then Philadelphia has escaped hell for purgatory.

On a report on Fox Saturday night, the mayor said that a clean city is a safe city. And then he added: "23,000 public employees, a million and a half citizens, we can't do it all by ourselves. Your work, Kerri-Lee, and the many others who have gotten involved in this, it really makes a difference."

Woo-hoo! Anybody tells you Philadelphia Will Do makes a difference, you can tell them I didn't post about the citywide cleanup1 and that I strive every day to not make a difference. I do enjoy Nutter's shirt from benevolent corporate sponsor Verizon. There is no doubt Nutter is simply trying to emulate Bernard Hopkins and his GoldenPalace.com temporary tattoo.

Report from Fox 29's Kerri-Lee Halkett after the jump. (Standard Redlasso it-could-kill-your-computer warning.)

Kerri-Lee Online, In Her Pajamas

040208kerrilee.jpg
Hey, look! The guys at the Kidd Chris Show -- you may know Kidd Chris from every Philly.com comment section ever -- recently convinced Kerri-Lee Halkett to send in a photo of herself in her pajamas.

The photo isn't anything all that scandalous, as Halkett apparently sleeps in sleepwear that resembles a Miami Dolphins jersey. KLH is also now blogging at KerriLeeTV.com and even has a nightly segment on the news also about blogging. (Yes, yes.)

One of the best things on her site so far is just a little offhand comment on a reader mail post: "I love getting emails from all of you... Some of the emails, well, I um, can’t share with you (hint hint)." Indeed! Welcome to the Internet, Kerri-Lee, where every woman gets harassed by weirdos.

Video of last night's segment after the jump. She says "rubbish"!

Kerri-Lee Halkett Attempts To Regain City's Attention

kerrilee
If you're a more recent visit to this website, you might believe Alycia Lane is my favorite news anchor in the city. You'd be wrong. The news anchor thing goes back a while, but earlier this year Kerri-Lee Halkett was chronicled with Alycia Lane-like precision. (And, really, I can't believe there isn't a feature on Philadelphia Will Do called "Erin O'Hearnspotting.")

Halkett didn't do anything like punch a cop, but she did hold off Vince Fumo's advances (stay with me here) to eventually date NBC 10 anchor Jamison Uhler.

Yesterday, Dan Gross reported the two have split, and Michael Klein says they're just too busy to date. I'm not really sure what this means -- that thing where you stop dating someone but still sleep with them? -- but the 36-year-old Halkett said something about relationships and time and I dunno.

Halkett is also apparently busy with a local "Dancing with Local Celebrities" event along with new Fox 29 weatherguy John Bolaris. No word on what other news anchors are included in this list of, uhm, celebrities.

Kerri-Lee Halkett Rides Internet Fandom To Emmy Win

091707kerrilee.jpg
There are a lot of things to like about local anchorbabe Kerri-Lee Halkett (at right with Matt Cord for some reason). One, she hasn't taken a restraining order out on me or this website or threatened to sue me for libel.

But, more importantly, she won a Mid-Atlantic Emmy for Best Anchor, besting out Larry Mendte and Alycia Lane. Amusingly enough, some dude (Jason Bristol) from some station you've never heard of (WHP CBS21) won Best Sports Anchor.

According to the nominees list, she bested out Mendte twice; nonetheless, Larry still appeared to take home about 22 Emmys. Perhaps now that KLH has an award she can finally get some coverage in the New York tabloids. A tipster reports Halkett was "backstage when it happened and didn't even know she'd won," which could mean she's humble, too. Yeah, that'll never play in New York.

Chicago Swimsuit Controversy Way More Fun Than Ours

071207newsbabe.jpg
While she might not attract quite the desire our own bikini-clad newsbabe does, Chicago's Amy Jacobson did do one thing Alycia Lane didn't: She released the photos. Or, rather, the video got out.

Well, okay, the situation is a little different. Jacobson was covering the disappearance of a man's wife for CBS 5 in Chicago and showed up at his house in a swimsuit. Then, somebody took video and Channel 5's rival, Channel 2, broadcast the video online and Jacobson eventually resigned from the station. (She says she made a "horrible mistake." Gasp!)

Meanwhile, Alycia Lane has yet to show up in a swimsuit, one-piece or bikini, anywhere. But it's apparently okay to joke with her about it, as the owner of a Bala Cynwyd gym put on Kerri-Lee Halkett's bikini top in order to make fun of Alycia Lane.

Lane took a photo and will now be showing it to friends who ask to see her bikini photos, apparently. If she issues a press release announcing the release of her fake bikini photos... well, it's be funny, but disappointing, I guess.

Kerri-Lee Through The Years

062007KLH.jpg
We interrupt this semi-hiatus -- Gotcha! Like I was actually going to post this week! -- for an important breaking announcement. Reader John Smith (not his real name) passed along this gallery of Kerri-Lee Halkett through the years, even going back to her days in Washington and Boston.

While this doesn't have the hi-definition glory of the more current Fox News at 5 gallery, it does feature an awful expansive look at KLH's career. I think it's fair to say they're both kinda creepy (in an endearing-yet-creepy way), but probably not as much as Kerri-Lee's commenters on her blog, and we can move on.

The "through the years" gallery also has this fine screencap from 2002:

062007KLH-cartoon.jpg

Check out the cleavage on that cartoon! Just think if Halkett wore low tops on the air like that all the time. I don't even want to guess what the online galleries would be like.

Editor's Note: I don't know what year the first photo is from, but she has a slightly modified Rachel haircut so place it sometime around then.

A Whole Lot Of Kerri-Lee

060507klh.jpg

The above photo is from the Kerri-Lee Halkett collection on SuperiorPics Celebrity Forums, a sort of clearing house for creepiness. (My favorite poster is the one below the Kerri-Lee photos, who has a link to his top 10 women, which he calls The Rod Squad. And his #1 is Patricia Heaton.)

I'm not sure what's happening to KLH there, but I think it's safe to say it's awesome.

Unlike Most Female Philadelphians, Kerri-Lee Halkett Not Completely Terrified Of Dan McQuade

041307KLH.jpg
041307dmac.jpg
Yesterday, Phillyist contributor G.W. Bridge had an interview on the blog with none other than Kerri-Lee Halkett. Did you know Kerri-Lee is from Canada? Yeah, you probably knew that. Did you know she doesn't visit Kerri-Lee.com but knows the information on it is out-of-date?

Anyway, the interview also touched on yours truly -- because, really -- and despite actual television footage to the contrary, I'm always a little nervous that people I write about will one day hunt me down and I'll wake up dead one morning.

Well, it appears I'm somewhat in the clear:

Several local bloggers, like Daniel McQuade, seem to talk about you a lot, and your blog on the station website generates a great deal of comments, some a bit unusual. How do you feel about this and do you enjoy blogging?

Well the world of blogging is a powerful one. That is the lesson I have learned. Be careful what you write in a blog, because it will wind up cut and pasted on everybody else’s blogs. I think it is kind of fun. My mom taught me a very good lesson, never say anything, never write anything, never do anything that you don’t want everybody to know about or respond to. So I kind of blog with that rule in mind. If this was going to get everywhere, would I be comfortable with that? So when I do see it cut and pasted and that sort of thing, I always think I suspected that one.

I just didn’t realize it could be as powerful as it is and I think that excites me and scares me a little bit. So, yeah, I am intrigued by the whole blogging thing and yes we do have to blog.

Oh crap. Write things you don't want everybody to know about? Well, damn, maybe I shouldn't have that reading about how disappointed I am in myself.

Since KLH didn't mention me specifically in her answer, I can only assume one of two things: (1) She's cool with the blog, or (2) She doesn't want to say anything mean. Either way, it works for me!

Kerri-Lee Halkett Finally Makes Stay-At-Home Dads' Dreams Come True

Kerri-Lee Halkett
Sound the siren! WHOOP WHOOP WHOOP WHOOP. (I assume this is how one onomatopoeizes a loud, important siren.)

Kerri-Lee Halkett writing on her blog (emphasis mine):

In May-- at the next Phillyfit Bash, yours truly is going to be part of a Kissing Booth (it's so Brady Bunch, isn't it? I feel like Jan trying to make extra money for the school band or something) Anyway, money will benefit the animals of Hurricane Katrina-- cats and dogs left without owners, homes, and in desperate need of medical care. Hope you will come and support the event, and bring your whole family!

While I doubt I'd be allowed to enter any sort of party with the word "fit" in it, I figured I'd pass along the tidbit.

Kerri-Lee Breaks Thousands Of Philadelphia Hearts

031607heads.jpg
Remember back in the old days -- i.e. earlier this year -- back before Milton Street, before the Philebriti/web guru couple Infiniti ad, but after Barbaro? Me neither.

But I went back through my archives and found there was about a week where this site was nothing but Kerri-Lee Halkett. This, of course, culminated in the inexplicable mention of yours truly on television by not only Kerri-Lee Halkett but also Jennaphr Frederick. (What more could a boy want?) After that point, I sort of figured there wasn't much else to do to top that, and it was over.

But then, I read this item in yesterday's Dan Gross column:

There's a newsome twosome in television news: Fox 29 anchor Kerri-Lee Halkett and NBC-10 reporter Jamison Uhler have been dating for about two months. When Uhler, a Delaware County native, moved to the area in January 2006, to join NBC-10, he arrived from his last job in Orlando with a fiancee named Rebecca, a nurse. The couple split amicably late last year, and we're told there was no overlap in the relationships for Uhler, who knows Halkett from Arizona State University, where both studied journalism.

Oh, I see how it is. I stop writing about Kerri-Lee Halkett and she goes and runs off with an NBC 10 reporter! (I know the timing doesn't quite work out, but I already started on this extended joke and I don't feel like coming up with something up.) My only question to Kerri-Lee: Why would you date this guy when you could date State Senator Vince Fumo? Wait, I guess that's a rhetorical question.

Vince Fumo Is All Over The City's Anchorwomen

021207kerri-lee.jpg
Last week, Daily News gossip writer Dan Gross reported Vince Fumo was smitten with Alycia Lane and had dinner with her several times in an attempt to woo her with his plans to raise alpacas and his many Oreck vacuum cleaners.

(Gross also said she went to an Eagles game with Fumo, but Lane emailed him to say she hadn't been to an Eagles game "nor any other sporting event" with him. Hmm. Nor any other sporting event. My guess is they went and saw some sort of pseudo-sport, like poker or NASCAR.)

Today, Gross reports Lane wasn't the only one Fumo wanted to get under the covers: In addition to Lane, he also wanted Kerri-Lee Halkett. Gasp!

Shortly after Halkett started at Fox 29 in 2002, she was invited by her neighbors Ruth Arnao and Mitch Rubin, the state Turnpike Commission chief, to join the couple and Fumo for dinner at the Capital Grille (1338 Chestnut).

The dinner was the only time Halkett and Fumo had met, but according to a friend of Halkett's, a Fumo friend later told the anchor that Fumo was interested in dating her. Halkett, who had a boyfriend at the time, did not pursue any political hanky-panky.

Both issued the usual denials. In other news, I think Jessica Borg and Erin O'Hearn will soon be enjoying dinners at the Palm.

Update, 6:00 p.m.: The Fox 5 o'clock news reminds me that I am now getting links from a women-wearing-boots fetish messageboard to this post.

PWD Continues Inexplicable Assault On City's Media Outlets

I must issue a correction to this Jan. 23 report on Kerri-Lee Halkett and Jennaphr Frederick. The boots were apparently not real leather. PETA, you can stop protesting outside 4th and Market now.

Oh, yeah, and here's how I learned this. More of it will be covered in my forthcoming book, How To Be A Media Whore For Fun And Profit.

It just goes to show: If you work hard enough, even a boy from the a rowhome without cable in Northeast Philadelphia can one day have nice things said about him by nice-looking women wearing pleather boots on television. The American dream is alive and well, people.

2006 Good Year To Watch Me; 2007, Not So Much

013107kerri-lee.jpg
The Daily News' "21 on the spot" feature hitting newsstands today, and, unlike last year, I am not on the list. (It must have been all the weight I gained.)

Okay, so they wouldn't put me on two years in a row. (Why they put me on it last year is a question to be left to the philosophers.) But that didn't stop yours truly from still managing to spread the Kerri-Lee love in the DN.

Quote: "Any show that has Jennaphr Frederick and Kerri-Lee Halkett in skirts and leather boots is a damn fine news show." — Philadelphia Weekly blogger Dan McQuade, after the Jan. 22 debut.

Damn. Had I known I was going to be quoted, I would have called them "fuck-me boots."

Play Dress-Up With Kerri-Lee Halkett

Hey, remember when NBC 10 had a flash game where you could dress up the station's weatherpeople? Well, Fox 29 just one-upped them.

Seriously, just when you thought the Fox 29 5 o'clock news couldn't get any better...

012506kerri-lee-dresses.jpg

Yes, you now have the chance to decide which Nicole Miller dress Kerri-Lee Halkett will wear to the Academy Ball with Prince Charles and Camilla. (Currently, gold and pink are in a near dead heat.)

I really hope this starts a trend of the viewers getting to choose with the anchors on TV are wearing. What color will Hurricane's bow tie be? Will we make Gary Papa wear a clown suit? Would you like to see Larry Mendte do a whole broadcast wearing a suit made totally of bacon? The possibilities are endless.

It must be Kerri-Lee Halkett day, as not only does her newscast debut this afternoon but she has a photoshoot in the current issue of W. (Really!)

Philebrity clues us in that the Fox 29 anchor is part of a fashion spread meant to show what TV reporters on the go, go, go wear when they're out covering the latest fire or snowstorm or global warming or whatever.

Kerri-Lee: Clearly the best of the bunch in the photoshoot. Now when is Jennaphr Frederick getting her big break in Maxim?
