Hey Another Phillyblog Dissent Site

Phillyblog poster “TheAlderian” has started yet another Phillyblog dissent site! And it has a Great Grand Plan: “The site is for information, learning, and fun and not to enslave posters into working for free to make other people free money.” Woo-hoo, finally, a messageboard without slavery.

Johnny Doc Drama Online And Off

Sometime between Sunday and Monday, the campaign office of Christian DiCicco was broken into by nefarious thieves who cut a phone line and stole some polling data and position papers. DiCicco’s campaign says that polling data that cost $24,000 was stolen as well.

Oh, and his campaign also says it was Johnny Doc. DiCicco’s people are angry that a flat screen TV and a $500 radio weren’t taken. Well! Looks like DiCicco has the election locked up, since he’s spending five hundred dollars on radios. It must be a radio that can hear the secret burglary plans of political rivals.

Johnny Doc spokesman Frank Keel says the campaign had nothing to do with it. (Basically, Johnny Doc is too smart to hire a guy to break in to a rival pol’s office that he could be connected to, so there’s no sense worrying about it anyway.)

DiCicco says it’s “voter intimidation.” Remember when Sam Katz was intimidated with a bomb? Yeah, come on, whoever broke in. Nowadays politicians do cocaine off the asses of prostitutes on live television. You’re going to have to do better than this to get our attention. How about some white guys with clipboards in dark suits?

Beloved Soccer Fans Evicted From Wikipedia

Philadelphia — well, Chester — might be getting a state-funded soccer team in MLS, but not all is rosy for the team’s fan club, the Sons of Ben.

Yes, someone has nominated their Wikipedia article for deletion, and it appears to be destined to be removed from Wikipedia. While the Sons of Ben have gotten a couple mentions in the news, it appears that these Wikipedia editors have been on the receiving end of the group’s emails, which usually are sent five times in a row or so.

Or perhaps it’s just this: “Not only not notable, but also totally lame. Linking to user pages from the article just shows what a joke it is.” Oh, you showed them!

Internet Drama Report For 1/16

As you may know, the Internet was slowed to a crawl yesterday due to geeks hitting F5 to reload their browsers to hear about the new MacBook they will then complain is too expensive. But that doesn’t mean there wasn’t big Internet news going on!

First off, Sweeney entertainingly tells us the Salt messageboard has been taken over by ultimate fighters. If that previous sentence doesn’t make much sense to you, it’s okay.

As of this morning, we’ve heard from several longtime posters: One who has definitively quit, and others who are just wondering where their old board went. But maybe poster Somo said it best; when asked for a quote, he sighed heavily, thought on it for a moment, and said, “I just hope everyone can be cool, man.”

If that isn’t enough, the Fox 29 American Idol chatroom was invaded by IRC bots last night and all hell broke loose. If that sentence doesn’t make any sense to you, just go to after the jump, where Internet drama leaks into the real world!
