Freddie Mitchell Tries Out For Ravens
Pro Football Talk with the story of the day:
A league source tells PFT that the Baltimore Ravens have worked out free agent wide receiver Freddie Mitchell.
We first heard about the Mitchell workout when a reader tipped us off that Mitchell had mentioned it on his MySpace page.
Ahh, welcome back to the NFL, Fred-Ex. Or, rather, welcome back to NFL tryouts, I guess. Good luck!

Reason #54 To Love Philadelphia: Freddie Mitchell
Yes, Freddie Mitchell hasn't lived in Philadelphia for a while now. (He's been out of football since the Eagles' 2004 Super Bowl season.) But Philadelphia
made Freddie Mitchell.
And all his antics since -- not joining the Philadelphia Soul, being a substitute teacher, etc. -- are in part because he made his mark first in Philadelphia.
And what is he up to now? Why, he might go play in the Canadian Football League! (And he might play with Mike McMahon, who was on the Eagles in the awful 2005 season.) This, truly, is a fitting end to Freddie's football career.
Well, okay, when he gets cut from the CFL, that will be a fitting end to his football career.

Freddie Mitchell Got Fingered (For Asking For Digits)
The above photo features former Eagles wide receiver Freddie Mitchell (uhh, at right). Or, rather, "Mr. Mitchell," according to a letter sent in to Deadspin along with the photo:
I was at home this past weekend in Mishawaka, IN, and my brother told me that over the summer Freddie Mitchell was a substitute teacher at Mishawaka High School. Supposedly the woman who was his kid's mother lives in town, and he needed some extra money. He lasted all of one week, due to the fact that he was caught asking girls for their phone numbers.
I guess this is as good of a time as any to point out that the Eagles passed up Reggie Wayne to draft Mitchell in 2001.

Freddie Mitchell Got Fingered
Okay, today's a very sports-related (but all kind of tangential), and for that, I apologize. No, wait, no I don't. This story, though, could be a boon for all Philadelphians: The Philadelphia Soul are looking to sign Freddie Mitchell.
For those who may not know, the Philadelphia Soul is the Arena League Football team in the city; the rules are different from regular football: it's played indoors, there are only eight players to a side, there are walls, et cetera.
Freddie Mitchell holds a special place in my life and in the lives of most Philadelphians, for several reasons. For one, Mitchell caught the infamous "4th & 26" pass, that saved the Eagles from a seemingly sure loss to the Packers in the 2004 NFC Divisional Playoffs. (The Eagles would, of course, lose the next game. But it was fun for a week.)
Not only that, but after scoring twice in the 2005 NFC Divisional Playoffs, he gave a ridiculous press conference where he talked about how he'd "like to thank his hands." Then, after the loss in the Super Bowl, he said they should have thrown the ball to Freddie more.
In my life, though, there's another special reason: Freddie Mitchell showed up on back-to-back nights (the second night, bringing Brian Westbrook and Correll Buckhalter with him) at a bar on campus when I was in college. Yes, he's quite the football player.
It seems unlikely that Mitchell would sign up with the Soul -- he'd have to take a huge pay cut -- but think of the possibilities. Players go both ways in Arena football, which means Freddie would have to put his ego aside and play some defense. Now that's something we'd all like to see.
