Larry Mendte Still Allowed To Use Email

Michael Klein alerted everyone to Larry Mendte's official website in yesterday's Inquirer. Brad Maule will be happy to see that he's using an updated skyline shot with the Comcast Center; everyone else should probably be terrified of the 75-foot Mendte that will kill us all.

I can only assume Mendte is harvesting email addresses and will be sending replies that contain rootkits, so he can soon be reading everyone's email.

Mixmaster Mike Disses Comcast Center

This is fairly amusing to begin with -- as is the $250+ price tag -- but, c'mon, local designers: Can't anybody get some art with the Comcast Center in it? Come on, the skyline only changes significantly every 20 years or so (for the last 20 years, at least), somebody has to be working on some clip art with the new Comcast building included.

Brad Maule, I'm looking in your direction.

I love this view of the Comcast Center from Dilworth Plaza.

It's September 27. It's 85 degrees outside. Go out and eat some ice cream or something. I love fall, but let's enjoy summer for a bit longer.

'Blogger-Mentioned-On-TV-By-Attractive Woman' Meme Begins To Spread To Other Stations

Congratulations are in order for one R. Bradley Maule, Phillyskyline.com proprietor and all-around good guy/G-Ho maven, for being mentioned on Action News last night. By Erin O'Hearn! Comcast Center Base Jump: The Video!

They were much higher than I originally thought, and the jumpers are apparently "the gnarliest guys you'll ever see in your life."

Two Men Leap Off Comcast Center

See that blurry screencap at right? Well that's footage of somebody base jumping off the Comcast Center, CBS 3 reports. (Or "Comcast Tower," as CBS 3 calls it. I also love the way it's introduced: "One of the latest 'buzz' videos on YouTube..." and "Do not try that." "No. No. Not at all.")

The video is nowhere to be found on the 'Tube right now, but CBS 3 has some of the video. Early Sunday morning, two enterprising people snuck into the Comcast Center, and jumped from what appears to be 20 stories up to the ground outside that corner bakery around there. Obviously, if the cops find 'em, they'll be charged with tresspassing, etc.

But from everyone else, they can simply expect an award of awesomeness for base jumping off the Comcast Center.

Quickies: 13-Year-Olds Have Amazing Stamina

• Hey, guess, what, the Comcast Center's getting waterless urinals! Of course, the plumbers are going to install pipes that won't even be connected so they can get more money, or something. Here's an idea: Give the plumbers the money and don't install the unless pipes! Wait, here's a better idea: Don't give the plumbers the money and don't install the useless pipes. Yeah. I like that. • Aww, the Internet politically-obsessed have found out the City Democratic machine would rather not have the Internet! (Maybe.) Or at least an Internet that they don't control. [Young Philly Politics]

• A teacher in Delaware has been arrested for having sex with a 13-year-old 28 times over an eight day period. Nothing to say to that but, uh, wow?

Quickies: Whiz kids

• You know how the Comcast Center is going to be a "green" building with urinals that don't use water but aren't disgusting? Yeah, that'd be so cool! Being Philadelphia, the plumbers' union is crying that they're not going to get enough money from installing these toilets as they would regular ones. Waaaaaah! There's really not much more I can add to this fantastic Daily News editorial, although I don't think they were harsh enough. [DN]

• The New York subway system is getting messageboard signs that say when the next train is coming. They're already in London, Paris and Washington. Philadelphia should have them in about 2156. [AP/Yahoo!]

• Delaware hired a new basketball coach Tuesday, then rescinded the offer due to the coach's 2004 DUI. Which he had been forthcoming and honest about during interviews. This is officially your WTF moment of the day. [Wilmington News Journal]

• Rick Mariano resigned from two City Council posts yesterday, but he'll still keep receiving that $102,000 paycheck until he's sentenced. Oh, whatever. [DN]
