Who To Blame For Flyers 3-0 Deficit?
Okay, so the Flyers were beaten 4-1 by the Penguins last night and are down 3-0 to the Penguins. Alas, alas. Who to blame for this 3-0 hole?
Oh, Metro's Clark DeLeon had an idea on Monday:
Then the son asks everyone in the Cathedral to sign the "Let's go Flyers, let's go." Fight song. And again, rather than appreciate the sentiment, my immediate reaction was, "He just jinxed the Flyers."
Yes, that's right: Clark DeLeon is blaming the dead cop's son for the Flyers' loss. "Geeze, couldn't that kid think of anyone but himself once in a while?" I assume he was thinking. A poster at Domelights -- clearly a liberal hippie communist college student -- advocates tossing all the copies of Metro in the trash, which you may know is against the law.

Language Change Frightens Clark DeLeon
Clark DeLeon's
Metro column today avoids defending
the little guy and instead attacks him (and him and her and her) by
explaining his opposition to gay marriage.
Unlike others, DeLeon's opposition to gay marriage isn't because of religious or squeamish reasons. At least that's not what he says. It's due to the fact that, well, letting two people of the same sex marry would just confuse him:
I don’t know why the state decided that one man can’t marry two women, or that two women can’t marry a 12-year-old boy, but I agree with those prohibitions on an intuitive level. ... Forget the arguments, both legal and emotional. Consider the fate of the language. Remember when “partner” meant a co-equal in business or tennis? Subtlely, noticeably, people don’t use the word “partner” the way they used to. Without knowing why, I always hated the word “queer.” Now it’s in the name of a TV show. The rules of language — the meaning of words — changes. But certain words have immutable definitions.
You hear that gays! You've already ruined the word partner and Clark DeLeon doesn't want anyone thinking his tennis partner is his gay partner! You selfish bastards, wanting this whole "gay marriage" thing without thinking what it does to poor Metro columnists.

Goliath vs. Goliath
Metro columnist -- who formerly wrote for the Inquirer -- Clark DeLeon writes whines today about the sale of the Inqurier and Daily News, and reflects on a lawsuit filed by Philadelphia Newspapers, Inc., six-and-a-half years ago to stop Metro from being distributed by SEPTA:
In my first column almost six-and-a-half years ago, in the brand new Philadelphia daily newspaper with the snappy name — Metro — I wrote, “If you are reading this newspaper on your way to work or school, it represents a victory by the little paper that could over the media giants that tried to crush it in its cradle.”
Indeed. That little, plucky company-that-could, Metro, won the right to be distributed behind the turnstile on SEPTA platforms (an agreement that's since been scrapped). Hey, wait, what's that just to the right of DeLeon's column?
Next week, DeLeon will write about a small, unknown start-up known as Wal*Mart, and how evil community members are attempting to keep it out of their neighborhood. And the following week, how those meanies in Nicetown are keeping out a little-known entrepreneur by the name of Donald Trump.

Good ol' days on the Philadelphia ski team
Speaking of easy setups, the following is the unedited headline for Clark DeLeon's column in today's Metro:
The (potentially libelous) jokes write themselves.
