Blogicized: Goodbye, Fu Manchu

• Philebrity points out the thing we forgot about Sal Fasano's impending move to the Yankees: He has to shave his mustache and cut his hair, per George Steinbrenner's no-facial hair rule/no-long hair rule. Gasp! The implications of this on Sal's Pals can not be overstated. [Philebrity]

• More Phillies news: Is the fans' love affair with Aaron Rowand already waning? If balls keep flying over his head... maybe. [Swing and a Miss]

• That Olympics press conference is today at 4:30 p.m., where Philadelphians will learn if our Olympic bid is dead before it officially began. [Politics Philly]

• And Greenadelphia! is a new blog, apparently about, uh, Philly's green environmental issues. [Greenadelphia]

Blogicized: Money Woes?

Is the Delaware Republican Party going broke? Would make sense. After all, they're supposed to be the more fiscally responsible party, right? [Delaware Watch]

• Hey, guess what? There are rats! In the city! And not just in the subways! [Metroblogging Philadelphia]

• Remind me that, if I ever get into an argument with my cell phone company, not to write a missive as long as most PW cover stories -- 3,396 words -- about it. [Phillybits]

• Wait, I'm supposed to make fun of this, too, aren't I? Right? Well, a commenter took care of it for me: "Um, I don't even know where to begin. You kids make it that much easier for me to move. Oh well, good luck with what may very well be the sweat pants of all -ists." Ba-zing! [Phillyist]

• JGT Update: In Chicago, heading to storm-damaged St. Louis soon. [Traffic.com Roadtrip]

Blogicized: Quotes, Tunes, Features

• Here's a lesson in what not to say to your coworkers: "The board president is so hot he makes my panties damp!" Indeed. [Pesky'Apostrophe]

• Hey, remember when Q102 was a classic rock station? No? Well, they had some really strange ads to tell you to listen to it. [Phillyist]

• If you didn't hear about that study Pew did about bloggers, well... good. You're probably better off for it. (You're probably better off if you don't know about blogs at all, in fact.) But one of our own got a (well-deserved) feature piece in the San Francisco Chronicle about her! Hooray! [Tinapopo]

Blogicized: Hey, Everybody Pile On!

Yee-ha! It's Bash Bill Giles Day™ here in Philadelphia, and bloggers are just going bananas about it! (Including myself!) So it's time for a special all-Bash Bill Giles edition of Blogicized! Let's take a look!

• A commenter pointed out this amusing piece by Tom Durso, which includes a nice translation guide for what Giles is actually trying to say. It's worth it for the last line. [Shallow Center]

• "Ruby Legs" says that Bill Giles must be forced out, a la Marge Schott, and also says the Phillies are worth a billion dollars. That seems about a billion dollars too high. [Phillyville]

• Will Bunch says this team must be sold immediately, but says a boycott won't work, so we have to beg. I can only imagine the email he's going to get from Giles: "On your knees, beyotch!" [Attytood]

• Balls, Sticks & Stuff asks: Are the Phillies incompetent, or just stupid? [Balls, Sticks & Stuff]

• Award-winning headline writer Peter Mucha comes up with the longest poll in Internet history. [Early Word]

• And, finally, Dan Rubin recaps it all! Huzzah! [Blinq]

Blogicized: Workers Of The World, Unite

• Ed Rendell ups the salaries of minimum wage earners to a cool seven-fifteen an hour, which still isn't all that much. But, hey, it's something, and, hey, the state legislature passed a law that people might actually like. Hip, hip and so forth. [A Smoke-Filled Room]

• Hey, Bunchy's back! And, hey, he's working on a self-fulfilling prophecy about Michelle Malkin or some random commenters on blogs! That's the kind of stuff we live for. [Attytood]

• Got a spare, oh, I don't know, 10 minutes or so? Here's an enjoyable way to spend it, I suppose. [Whiskey Bar]

Blogicized: God Bless America

• For anyone who has taken Joe Vento's "advice" to heart and is interested in becoming a citizen of our fair country, here's some advice: England is also known as Great Britain, and JUDICIAL = JUDGES. [Tinapopo]

• If you're wondering, a post on this very blog has led to noted quizzo host Johnny Goodtimes traveling around on a giant billboard for Traffic.com. Philadelphia Will Do: Changing lives. [Johnny Goodtimes]

• Carlos Ruiz is now the Phillies starting catcher. Let's let him stay there. [Beerleaguer]

Blogicized: Tremendous Upside

• Hey, the NBA draft is tonight! Get ready to watch the 76ers pick the player who will disappoint fans at least 41 times next season. That is, if he shows up. [Philly-Sports.Net]

• Alert! You can buy FireCharlieManuel.com if you really, really think that firing him will solve all the problems of the Phillies. Or if you have a lot of time on your hands. (Incidentally, the Phillies are losing 6-0 today.) [The 700 Level]

• The body of this blog entry about the housing bubble in Philadelphia is essentially just C&P'ed from the Inky's story the other day, but the comments are somewhat interesting. Yes, it's a slow day. [The Housing Bubble Blog via Phillyist]

Blogicized: United We Fall

• Every single person commenting on the Phillies has taken a fairly defeatist attitude the past week or two. Now the Phillies hit the road for that big series with the easiest of teams, the Red Sox. Oh, goodie. [Beerleaguer]

• Some Phillies fans keep their sense of humor, though. [The 700 Level]

• Now that we all have our AC on this week, The Illadelph reminds us to cool down with a local cold one. Friends don't let friends drink Bud, Miller or Coors. [The Illadelph]

Blogicized: The Wolfman Cometh

• Randy Wolf will be making a rehab start tonight at Reading, which means he'll hopefully be back in a Phillies (the NL team) uniform sometime soon. Could you imagine Randy Wolf throwing to Sal Fasano? The Wolf Pack and Sal's Pals! It'd be the greatest moment in CBP history. [I've Made a Huge Tiny Mistake]

• The Pennsylvania ACLU on the possible marriage amendment in the commonwealth: "And it's like getting an unwanted pinch on the butt to hear a lawmaker tell you 'the gays' are great, but they shouldn"t get married or French kiss in public." Indeed! [Speaking Freely]

• And a very happy birthday to another one of PW's bloggers, Liz Spikol, who turns 18 22 today. [The Trouble With Spikol]

Leftovers: King Of The CEOs

061306saurez.jpg• I've never heard of the Elmwood Park Zoo in Norristown, but now I want to go, just because of its intense CEO (left), Rafael Suarez. [Elmwood Park Zoo]

• Now that I have your attention, be sure to check out Liz Spikol's Top 10 Mental Health Tips, which is so official it gets capital letters. Number 1 is exercise. [The Trouble With Spikol]

• Despite Big Ben's injury, Gov. Ed Rendell stands by his signing of the helmet law repeal three years ago. [KYW 1060]

• Will Bunch sez the helmet law is a good idea, because head injuries cost taxpayer money. Now that's a language anyone can understand! [Attytood]

• Speaking of that, this Joe Vento thing just won't die. But you knew that. [Inky]

Blogicized: Soccer? I Hardly Even Know Her!

• NB to bloggers, journos, etc.: Writing hackeneyed shit like this where you go "Boy, soccer sure is boring... HOOLIGANS!" was probably not funny even when it first started showing up around 1990. If you're going to bash the World Cup, at least come up with something different. Please. [PhillyBurbs.com Blogs]

• We should have known Pat Gillick would screw up the rotation when he came to town, said we needed pitchers, then traded a starting pitcher away. I'm pretty sure I've brought that up before, but it bears repeating. Aspiring model Jason Weitzel weighs in on what could be done to fix the team's bloated ERA. [Beerleaguer]

• You're now not allowed to read Tom Ferrick's blog if you don't speak English. Get it? GET IT??? [Tom Ferrick's Poliblog]

Blogicized: The Trouble With Ringtones

• If you have IM, by now someone's probably sent you the story in the New York Times about a high-pitched ringtone that only kids can hear. I missed out on the office listening party but apparently all the kids can hear it. I can't actually hear it, but it makes my ears hurt, so I suppose I'd know when my phone was ringing anyway. [The Trouble With Spikol]

• Metroblogging has begun a series about things to do in Northeast Philly besides Franklin Mills and Neshaminy Mall. Their first entry is about the largest insect museum in the known universe, the Insectarium. This means, of course, that there's nothing to do in Northeast Philly other than Franklin Mills. (Neshaminy Mall is in, uh, Neshaminy.) [Metroblogging Philadelphia]

• Loosen up, office flirts! A few sexual comments doesn't mean harassment! Somewhere, Bob Barker is smiling. [Small Business Law Blog]

• Bobby Abreu loves his candy. [The 700 Level]

• You can almost hear them gasping about it from here, so we might as well note it: Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisbergerwas in a motorcycle accident this morning. Police sources say he has a broken jaw, broken left sinus cavity, severe knee injuries. [One For The Thumb]

Blogicized: Hip New Hotel Complete With Refinery, Planes, Swamp

• Starwood is opening its hip new Aloft hotel -- aimed at "Generation X" -- at the Philadelphia airport. This is better than when they built that Hilton on top of the Garage at 10th and Filbert. [The Illadelph]

• Ed Rendell has unveiled his wine shipping plan -- and, yes, it still includes the 18 percent tax to help the citizens of Johnstown recover from that drastic flood early last century. It's still a pretty good plan, which is shocking, considering this is Pennsylvania. [Phila Foodie]

• Thanks, Phillyist. I really needed to read an article about shit. [Phillyist]

• Joe Vento needs to learn himself some Ingish. [Philebrity]

Blogicized: Eric Gregg, 1951-2006

• We gave our love to Eric Gregg yesterday after his stroke; the big guy passed away at the age of 55 yesterday. Our thoughts are with his family and friends. [Philly Future]

• Oh no, the Daily News referred to two alleged (and unknown) murderers as "thugs"! The whole media is ruined, I tell you, ruined! [duh]

• The best thing about sports journalism is that, usually, columnists are allowed to write whatever the hell they want. God Bless America. And sports. [Gelflog]

• Rarr! Will Bunch will smash Geno's into a pulp! Grr! [Attytood]

Blogicized: Worst Year Ever

• People in Philadelphia, apparently, don't know when they've been shot down, even if it takes them a year to notice. (I'm past that point; I know when I'm being rejected. It comes sometime in the five minutes following, "Nice to meet you.") They also, apparently, have the "worst year ever," which is kind of confusing until you remember this is Philadelphia. [Starting A Landslide in My Ego]

Anthony DiMeo, III vs. Tucker Max, Philly Future and You. The headline says it all. [Philly Future]

• CHOP to build $400 million facility, to keep kinda creepy "CHOP" acronym. [America's Hometown]

Blogicized: 'In The Itchy & Scratchy CD-ROM, Is There A Way To Get Out Of The Dungeon Without Using The Wizard Key?'

• If you're into this sort of thing, you can wail on some nerds this weekend since the Wizard World convention is in town. Or, uh, you can go to the convention and see Kevin Smith and Jim Lee. Either one. [Phillyist]

• Yes, Philadelphia sure needs a Philadelphia Journalism Review. Perhaps we can staff it with bloggers. [PressThink]

• It's unanimous: Nobody in Philadelphia wants Gavin Floyd anymore. Sigh. [Huge Tiny Mistake]

• And, hey, let's throw some plugs: Johnny Goodtimes at the Planetarium; Philebrity Beach Party in, uh, Northern Liberties.

• Sometimes, you just need a sestina about Philadelphia. [The Trouble With Spikol]

• What really gets the Inquirer excited is definitely new bus maps from the Center City District. Now Philadelphia's transportation system is perfect! [Blinq]

• Comcast will allow its flagship sports network on satellite if you simply sign this online petition. Or not. When you're done that, though, be sure to vote if you've seen a UFO. [Welcome to Phillyville]

• Over at A List Of Things Thrown Five Minutes Ago, they're liveblogging the preliminary rounds of the spelling bee. One kid actually got to spell Grimace as a word. The definition was, assumedly, "A big giant purple... corporate... spokes... thing... oh, whatever, you know how to effing spell Grimace." [A List Of Things Thrown Five Minutes Ago]

• In America, your vote counts. Except when it doesn't. With Bonus "Press 1 for Spanish" things to anger Joseph Vento! [The West End]

• The Fightin' Phils sure could use a pitcher. Everyone knows that. So why was their big offseason move -- besides the Thome trade -- to send Vicente Padilla (a starting pitcher!) to Texas?! Argh! [Phillies Nation]

Leftovers: Beerleaguer, International Megastar

051206weitzel.jpg • Congratulations to Jason Weitzel, who's featured in Metro today -- talking about his Beerleaguer blog -- and about 'Phlogs' (sigh) in general. And his modeling headshot was way better than a photo of a fat guy in a Love Park t-shirt, which was a photo of some local blogger a few weeks back. [Metro]

• Hey, the Phillies won, too! [AP/Yahoo!]

• The best part of this anti-Barnes Tower website is not the design, not the fact that words like GHASTLY MONSTROSITY are used (yes, in all caps and bold) but the fact that something actually topped StopWoodhavenRoad.com in terms of overstatement and poor design. [Fight The Tower]

• Phillyist jumps in on the photos of doggies action. But of course. [Phillyist]

• The biggest question half the city is asking about the mail carrier who dealt drugs while on his route: Damn, why don't I live on his route? [Metro]

• Yesterday, President Bush pledged support for nuclear power. Or, of course, as he calls it, nucular power. Ba-dum-pum. [Bucks County Courier Times]

Blogicized: Kill Curt Schilling For Charity

• Not content to simply opine on every subject in the real world, ex-Phils and current Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling is now moving to the virtual world. The makers of the video game Everquest have created a Schilling character which probably weighs about 400 pounds and whose best move is talking to the media. Still, it's hard to say this is a bad thing, since (1) Each time he's defeated in one weekend, $5 goes to ALS and (2) you get a chance to finally shut up Curt Schilling. [The 700 Level]

• Go for the recap of last night's casino forum. Stay for the photo of DN scribe Sandra Shea and Mayor Street. [dragonballyee]

• Judges want their addresses and such out of the public record, citing safety concerns. I want a sandwich, citing hunger concerns. [Daily Rant]

• Turns out, Rick Santorum puts his foot in his mouth. A lot. And that's not even including the whole man on dog situation. [Tom Ferrick's Poliblog]

• Noted conspiracy theorist and congressman Curt Weldon says no to President Bush's help with his campaign, as he says Bush isn't doing well in the state. Yeah, and neither is saying you know Osama Bin Laden is dead from a secret source. [Political Wire via MyDD]

• Whee! New SEPTA buses! Possibly! Anybody get a photo? [Frankford Terminal Blog]

Blogicized: Another Philly Sports Goodbye

• Alex Gonzalez -- call him "A-Gon," and not to be confused with the other Alex Gonzalez on the Red Sox -- got up and randomly retired yesterday, with a stellar 1 RBI so far this season. [Phillies Nation]

• Johnny Goodtimes heads to Intercourse, Pennsylvania, comes home with a second place finish in a rhubarb pie making contest. Eh, you pick your battles. [Johnny Goodtimes]

• This brings new meaning to the term medical marijuana. Still, like most people with a so-ridiculous-it-might-just-work defense, we're all kind of rooting for him, aren't we? [The Trouble With Spikol]

• Barbaro is doing so well he can't remember that he broke his ankle or what horse racing is. Well, that's pretty good, I suppose. [Starting A Landslide In My Ego]

Blogicized: Making And Taking

• Ah, yes, the dream everyone has when they drive by Trenton on Route 1 or they leave its train station: What if Trenton were suddenly on fire? Just, keep it in your fantasies, please, lest someone get hurt. Or sue. [TinaPoPo]

• Yay! Let's meet the bidders that are hoping to one day run the Daily News, starting with the owner of another Daily News. [Attytood]

• If you combined The Sopranos and Philadelphia's hard-on for giving away money to those who don't need it, you'd get this. With bonus Navy Yard reference! Hey, I thought that was going to be the Olympic Village? [(1) Philebrity (2) Welcome to Phillyville]
