Chaka Fattah Can Knock Down The Projects With His Own Two Hands

Chaka Fattah is finally putting an ad on television, a nice slickly-produced one. (It's up there with Evans' ads in terms of production.)

You saw that right. Not only does he hang out with Bill Clinton -- Bill Clinton! -- but he's able to demolish tall buildings with his own two hands. Question: When's the last time a building demolition was used in a positive way in a political ad?

Knox Doesn't Forget Queena Bass, Jesus White

As the Knox Media Machine rolls on and on, there seem to be new Tom Knox ads every weekend. This one is unique in that it's completely baffling. "Hey, here are some good things the other candidates are doing, too!" And I love how it notes these are the five major candidates, not forgetting Queena Bass or Jesus White.

But the best part of the ad is the ending. "Only Tom Knox knows how to fund his plan to put more police officers on the streets. We'd tell you what that plan is, but we ran out of time talking about how good the other candidates are. Free dinners!"

Adwatch: Ferris Wharton vs. Beau Biden

PWD's Adwatch
Adwatch heads to Delaware with a special bonus two-fister of ads.

The race in question is the one for Delaware attorney general, where Ferris Wharton and Beau Biden are squaring off to see who... uh, gets to be Delaware's attorney general.

I know nothing about the race, and I'm too lazy to learn anything about it, so after the jump I'll just let the candidates tell us about themselves.

Adwatch: Liberal Lois Revisited

PWD's Adwatch
Last week, Adwatch looked at the Republican ad that focused on Lois Murphy's breasts. That ad delighted in calling her "Liberal Lois" and announcing that she is going to "raise your taxes," as all good liberals do.

After the jump, a look at a different "Liberal Lois" ad that continues to emphasize the taxes and the liberalism, but isn't as concerned about her breasts.

Adwatch: Patrick Murphy & Giant TV Screens

PWD's Adwatch
With the election tomorrow, there is only one more day to make fun of stupid political ads. The upshot is that there's only one more day to watch them on television, a point I need to remind myself of every five minutes lest I think this is how things are going to be for the rest of the month.

Another upshot is that I have a lot of pre-packaged content this afternoon, leaving me able to nap under my desk while no one is looking. After the jump, the first of several Adwatches today, this one a look at a recent ad for Democratic House candidate Patrick Murphy, an Iraq war vet.

Adwatch: I Like Joe (For Congress)

PWD's Adwatch
Okay, today's Adwatch wasn't on TV and isn't an official campaign ad, but I don't care. It's a minute-long ad with a bouncing ball -- so you can follow the words! -- about how Curt Weldon needs to go, with a little bit of Joe Sestak praise thrown in at the end. And it's done by former members of the Squirrel Nut Zippers.

Because if there's one group I want to tell me who to vote for, it's the Squirrel Nut Zippers. (Perhaps their next hit can be, "If you vote for Bush... D and the A and the M and the N and the A and the T and the I-O-N." Ho ho!) Follow me after the jump for the ad.

Adwatch: Bucks County Kitchens

PWD's Adwatch
Today, Adwatch looks at Mike Fitzpatrick, Republican congressman for the Eighth Congressional District, and his recent attack ads toward his opponent.

The ads mostly just replay a clip of Patrick Murphy on Hardball, where he can't tell Chris Matthews whether he would have voted for the Iraq war (which he served in), and they play up his inexperience. Let's explore one of these attack ads, after the jump.

Adwatch: Joe Sestak Out Of Nowhere!

Adwatch
Today's Adwatch video is a 30-second spot for Admiral Joe Sestak, as he likes to call himself, a retired Vice Admiral in the Navy who's battling against noted conspiracy theorist Curt Weldon.

While Sestak is a political neophyte, he's running ahead of Curt Weldon in recent polls, mainly due to... well.. Curt Weldon being the zaniest (to put it nicely) politician ever. Also, Sestak has these ads that are, like, super-patriotic. I'll analyze one after the jump.

Adwatch: Death Of A Governor?!

PWD's Adwatch
Ah, yes, we move into the exciting third day of Adwatch. So far we've done ads attacking Lois Murphy (by the Republican National Congressional Committee) and Rick Santorum (by a pro-Little League Bob Casey), and today we'll all take a look at one of Lynn Swann's latest ads.

Despite his pedigree as a football player and a football sideline reporter, it appears Swann isn't going to take the Pennsylvania election this year. Ed Rendell is leading by, uh, lots and lots of points in the polls, and Swann will end up doing TV analysis of Steelers games or something come late November. That hasn't stopped him from continuing to take to the airwaves, however. After the jump, his Rendell attack ad.

Adwatch: Lois Murphy's Breasts Will Raise Taxes

PWD's Adwatch
Welcome to Philadelphia Will Do's Adwatch, yet another hastily thrown together feature that features the best and worst (but mostly the worst) of political advertising. No fact-checking here, unless it's particularly funny. No, Adwatch dissects the ads to find out just what makes them so unintentionally hilarious. (Or, in rare cases, effective.)

Today's ad is an attack ad from the Republican National Congressional Committee, which you may remember from the famous 2004 ads where they essentially accused Democrats of being slaves to Osama Bin Laden. (Or something.) The ads were so over the top that Republican House candidate Mike Fitzpatrick actually asked them to stop running the ads. After the jump, the ad and some commentary.

Adwatch: Bob Casey Is Pro-Little League

adwatch.png
With a scant two weeks until the midterm elections, the airwaves are clogged with political advertisements. And, as a viewer with limited commercial-watching time, you may be wondering, "But what ads do I watch?" Most of them are hideous, but every once in a while there's one that's so over-the-top hilarious I can't pull myself away.

That's where this little new featured comes in. Every weekday now until election day, November 7, Philadelphia Will Do will be doing Adwatch, a feature where the best and brightest of television and radio campaign ads show up. Although not an official part of Adwatch (these distinctions must be made, natch), go take a listen to yesterday's Newspaper Guild anti-Tierney advertisement and then follow past the jump for the first edition of Adwatch.
