David Aldridge To Leave Inquirer
![]() |
Here's Aldridge's column from today's paper; it's about fans angry that the Detroit Pistons didn't play their starters and the 76ers won too easily. (Man, we Philly sports fans sure are picky, aren't we? Two months ago we woulda killed to beat the Pistons reserves!)
Full email after the jump.
David Aldridge will be leaving The Inquirer after next week. As many of you know, David has been juggling responsibilities for The Inquirer and a television network for a number of years, and that has become untenable for him. We will miss him for his reporting, maturity and professionalism. As someone who has worked with David in newspapers and television, I have always appreciated his dedication to doing journalism the right way, regardless of the medium and of the industry trends. At this time, David plans to devote his full attention to television. We wish David and his family well.

If Bill Lyon's retirement saddened me on a 10/10 level, this is a solid 9. David Aldridge, especially before he became more of a TV guy, penned some great stuff on the sixer beat. He brings more intelligence , insight and moderation to the discussion than 10 other NBA commentators put together. He was a true asset to our increasingly arid sports page, and will be missed. PS, please eliminate Stephen A's position to make more room for Aldridge.
