Hooray: Paul Supporters Now Being Fined

021108paulgoldcoins.jpg

It isn’t just the Main Stream Media and selected blogs where Ron Paul supporters are treated as second-class citizens. No, it turns out local police departments are part of the government-backed cabal against America’s Favorite OB-GYN.

But for Cody Hauer, being a Ron Paul supporter may wind up costing more than $550 following four citations in one week from the Owatonna (Minn.) Police Department for having a $40 window decal on the rear window of his Buick Park Avenue. “I support Ron Paul, the city police department doesn’t,” he said. “They gave me a DWR - driving while Republican.”

I’d actually think it’s more of a simple DUI, with the illegal substance in this case being thoughts in favor of Dr. Ron Paul. Hauer plans to say that the ban on stickers in car windows violates something called the “First Amendment,” which I believe is one of the Ron Paul supporters’ made up terms like “gold standard.”

It is no surprise this article was reported in the Owatonna People’s Press, clearly an arm of the anti-Paul Socialist Party.

Wow, way to expose yourself as a total ignoramus. “Gold standard” is a made-up term? One Ron Paul supporter is a reflection of all Ron Paul supporters?

Do you know anything about anything, or are you just another corporate shill? Don’t bother answering–we already know.

  2. VoiceofReason Says: Feb 11 2:07 PM

If you think for a minute that RP supporters aren’t going to pay this young man’s fines, you are sadly mistaken.

I’ve already contacted the local reporter who intially wrote on the matter and will be cutting a check after the March 3rd court date.

This young man should be commended for not being spoon fed by the Media….will he win his case, no, but that doesn’t mean he will pay a red penny.

    Mark these words.

  3. Craig Says: Feb 11 2:23 PM

Okay, so how can a window sticker that only partially obstructs the driver’s view be a ticket-worthy offense, but people driving delivery vans with no rear window, or semi-trucks with no rear window, or pickup trucks with campers and no rear window be considered okay?

  4. Anonymous Says: Feb 11 2:23 PM

Ron Paul sure can balance a toppling stack of gold coins well. He shouldn’t run for president, he should join the circus!

  5. Urbanus Says: Feb 11 2:26 PM

I’d much rather hear from http://www.voiceoftreason.ca in the comments than the “Voice of Reason”.

  6. Mike Says: Feb 11 2:30 PM

So if a decal can obstruct a driver’s vision, I would guess that it would be illegal to operate a Ryder truck, UPS, U-Haul, Fedex, 18 wheeler etc.

  8. Greg Sager Says: Feb 11 2:31 PM

Right now the country is drunk with illusion. They are seeing things that don’t actually exist. It’s all a dream.

Ron Paul is the alarm clock, and the media mind-controlled sleepwalking public just keeps hitting the snooze button. They just want to dream about the great healthcare they are going to get, or how wonderful it is that we have candidates who will keep stretching the empire until it rips apart.

Never mind that your bed is on fire. As the economy flames out of control over the next year, all of these phonies will be running around trying to fight fires to no avail. Only Ron Paul carries the water for this country at this time. The system is so corrupted, it’s as if termites had been eating away at it for years and barely a splinter is left to prop up the fantasy that was once America. The termites are everywhere now: The Federal Reserve, the World Bank, the IMF, the Carlyle Group, the CFR, the Bilderbergers, the Democrats and the Republicans. It’s all a facade, a dream, a fraud.

Ron Paul has done his best to wake us up to the brick wall we are hurtling towards at an unsafe speed. As the American people continue to wet themselves over Obama, or tearfully reminisce the heartwarming Clinton years (and the healthcare we didn’t get then either - but we did get NAFTA); or as they beat their chests like war drums for McCain, we as a country have fallen into a trance.

Ron Paul is just too real for the American public. Better to just go back to sleep and have that dream about how you will have excellent healthcare after you get back from whatever war that took your arms and legs and your future.

  11. John Bowery Says: Feb 11 2:49 PM

So let me get this straight, it seems that you have taken the opportunity of a traffic ticket given to one person as an opportunity to smear the character and intelligence of hundreds of thousands of American citizens whose only crime is supporting a presidential candidate with whom you disagree? Congratulations, you have now achieved a level of journalistic integrity that would shame a middle school newsletter.

  12. Phillybits Says: Feb 11 2:55 PM

Leave it to the Paultards to make something out of what otherwise appears both a case of safety enforcement as well as defiance by the man in question.

    From the article:

According to Minnesota law, it is illegal for people to operate a motor vehicle on any street or highway if any side window or rear window is composed of or treated with material obstructing the driver’s view.

Hauer had a 13-inch-by-40-inch decal affirming his support for the “Ron Paul Revolution.” The decal took up most of the window with red and white lettering, while mini decals advertising Paul’s presidential Web site adorn the bottom of his passenger windows.

Hauer purchased the decals on eBay for about $40 on Jan. 23 and put them on himself. He drove past three or four police officers with them on and believed it was OK.

But on Jan. 26, Hauer said, he received a verbal warning from the Minnesota State Highway Patrol. The warning followed with four written citations from the Owatonna Police Department issued Saturday, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. Each citation could cost him $128 in fines.

But since he was in violation of the law, Stebbins said, she would leave it up to Hauer whether to take the decal off.

“It’s not the content of the speech [police] are going after, it’s more of a safety issue,” Stebbins said.

Driving While Republican. Though that’s not the case here, it certainly could be, judging from this guy’s behavior.

  13. jan Says: Feb 11 2:57 PM

If he doesn’t pay the fine, the authorities can take his car tag and or drivers license.
Even if the kid CAN see thru the decal .
One thing to point out..all cars have a blind spot..how about citations for the car architects/corporations? Why not just allow big government authorities to mandate that cars must be made like in the cartoon, The Jettsons with a clear bubble top for a 360 degree view..LOL must wear helmets, safety apparatus and foam rubber suit yada yada yada.
    When does it all STOP?

  14. Phillybits Says: Feb 11 3:09 PM

Just out of curiosity - well, actually no - for humor’s sake, who will the Paul (it’s so hard not to add -tards or -bots to that) supporters vote for when (and I do mean when, not if) Paul doesn’t win the nomination?

    McCain?
    Huckabee?
    Write in for David Duke?

(j/k about the write-in, guys. You can relax now.)

Seriously - who will they vote for when their candidate doesn’t get the nomination? Or will they just not vote at all?

Enjoy the president you’re going to get morons. It looks like your choice is going to be between a member of the Keating 5, or a worthless Democrat that voted for the Patriot Act, the Iraq War, and has the same qualifications to be president as President Bush Jr.

There you go. In their never-ending battle with reality, the anti-Ron Paul people have finally reached their “logical” conclusion: Ron Paul doesn’t exist!

And for all the coverage the MSM has given him, they could almost be correct. Almost.

  23. Kathy from PA Says: Feb 11 4:54 PM

Easy. If Ron Paul is not nominated, I will vote for Ron Paul.

I liked the article, by the way. Nice satire :)

  24. Jeff W. Says: Feb 11 5:11 PM

Hey John Bowery. What don’t you get about this ? You can’t have a transparent decal on a rear window that you are not required to have. That is what anyone with any common sence would call F***ING STUPID!!! I e-mailed the police cheif and told him the same thing (I probably should have left out the douche-bag part). I don’t think we’re friends anymore. Everyone should drop him a line. Cheers, Jeff

How mature of you guys. 18 to late 20’s, eh? I’m sure the families and people who actually have to go through their “labor of love” helping children who actually are mentally handicap will appreciate your reference to a statesman’s supporters as “Paultards”.

Apparently, understanding the principles of civil disobedience that doesn’t have to do with shotgunning beers, smoking pot, and using high-school name calling is beyond such characters. We don’t have that kind of law in our State, thankfully. Not saying much, but at least we care about our first amendment here.

  37. Anonymous Says: Feb 12 12:09 AM

Tell ‘em DJ! The term “Paultards” is offensive to retards!

  38. Scott Harmon Says: Feb 12 12:17 AM

It’s a sarcastic article based on a real story, but not all that humorous. Sadly, nowadays, it’s becoming hard to tell the difference between caustic wit and witless commentary.

  39. Richard Simmons Says: Feb 12 12:56 AM

I enjoy the feeling of caustic wit in my anus.

  40. Brian Says: Feb 12 6:07 AM

I am a Ron Paul supporter; And I don’t support this guy being stupid. He should not of had the sticker in his window. Not because it blocks his view, but because it is illegal. People think that because they want a change they can break whatever rules/laws they want. It doesn’t work that way.

So chill out, and stop being stupid. Do it right, or don’t do it at all. Because when you do it wrong, you make the rest of us look stupid. I hope no one pays that dudes fines, and he is left to stiff it out.

  41. MICHAEL Says: Feb 12 6:53 AM

Tongue in cheek? More like foot in mouth!

  42. James Says: Feb 12 7:48 AM

It’s funny to hear such disdain and hatred for this man and his supporters. What is the point? Is Ron Paul and his ideas, you know . . . the ideas of our founding father written down IN PHILADELPHIA, that vitriolic?

Every time I hear someone support another candidate its for something other than his/her ideas. McCain = Veteran, Huckabee = Christian, Hillary = Bill, and Obama = Charismatic. Or people just lump themselves into one of two groups: Democrat vs. Republican / Liberal vs. Conservative.

Have you ever noticed that whoever takes office, despite their party affiliation, the same agenda just moves forward seamlessly?

Ron Paul is not your savior, and neither are any of the candidates. Let’s stop waving our flags and blindly following any supposed leader, celebrity or guru. Think for yourself.

  43. Anonymous Says: Feb 12 9:47 AM

“Paultards”, you who deride supporters, like me, sound like elementary school brats. It seems that you people have been given license from the word go. Ever since the MSM painted Dr. Paul as a loon you took the bait. Not debating the issues and ideas of the Republican Party, in a thoughtful way, but you resort to calling his supporters “Paultards”.
Ok, so I will revert to my Elementary school retort,”I know what you are but what am I”.
