Hey The Inquirer Is Doing That Pig Thing Again

Inquirer circulation numbers were up slightly; the flying pigs "concept" was "re-launched." Uh-huh. Look, The Return of the Flying Pigs dot com.

The theme this time is "The Return of the Flying Pigs: The Movie," and there's a whole 'nother four-page supplement. So far, the flying pigs movie trailer has crashed my browser twice.

If only they'd use all this "I toldja so" angst to better the paper instead of on ad campaigns bragging about paper sales

Tacky beyond belief.

I was a long-time subscriber to the Sunday Inky only (I'd just pick up the daily paper on the way to work) when in summer 2006, the Inquirer offered me two free weeks of daily service. I assumed there'd be a sales pitch after the end of the two weeks, but nope--fifteen months later, I'm still getting the Inky free on weekdays.

I suspect that this was part of a plan to increase circulation numbers, with the shortfall in revenue compensated for with advertising. (The Inky could then go to businesses and say that their ads would be seen by X number of readers.) So the much-trumpeted improvement in circulation may in fact be inflated by freebies.
