Sen.: Philadelphians Aren't Paying Enough For SEPTA
![]() |
In Bradford County, all the residents have cars and drive around on roads paid for by the state and federal governments. SEPTA does plan to raise fares 11 percent on July 1 (tentatively), and will raise fares like 300 percent unless the state kicks in $100 million to close a budget gap for the cash- and quality-strapped transit agency.
Madigan, though, did say that "SEPTA has made a decision that could significantly hinder efforts to build consensus on new funding, given the fact that the legislature has clearly indicated that transit users have to be part of any funding solution."
Get ready for $5 fares coming later this year!

Congestion pricing.
It works in London and could provide a transit subsidy. Progressive mayors like Mike Bloomberg have suggested such plans over on this side of the pond.

Madigan has gotta be inbred: there's has to be an extra chromosome for the guy to be that frikkin' stupid.
I say Philly should secede and join NJ. Sure, the taxes are higher, but at least they fund their transit and their schools. Then Madigan's Bradford Count can be free to be the economic powerhouse it really is. It's not like, y'know, Philadelphia, or for that matter Pittsburgh, provides substantial revenue to the state. They wouldn't miss us or our money at all.
I don't know why Harrisburg hates us so much.
