Philly Women Like 'Home Improvement' In A Browser

052307womanoftheweek.png
A few words about Philly.com's new "Philly Women" section with (the female) Anonymous Reader.

AR: i'm sort of wondering who their demographic is

like it seems like it's designed for idiots
i just think it's the newsprint equivalent to those old penny's commercials -- remember those?
where the dads are left to parent the kids while moms are out shopping?
and the kids go ballistic and nearly tear down the house or something?
me: i think you're thinking of graham greene's the destructors
AR: phillywomen is the same schlock
me: so it's like home improvement, say?
AR: now i can put a grown-up sociological reason for why i hated that show as a child, ha

AR: plus, not for nothing, but the writing blows

wait wait wait
oh my god dovetail
we just agreed with teresa masterson.
me: we did!
AR: oh my god, seriously, now i kind of feel bad for mocking the rest of her columns
i mean, this is exactly how i feel, and she WROTE it to respond to a commenter:

I guess my point is partly your point: “The site aggregates a sampling of what is considered ‘women’s interests’.” Why are they even doing this? Where’s the “Philly Men” section? Or is it just assumed that the rest of the site, full of hard news, business and sports is the “men’s section,” that we delicate small-brained females can’t handle.

me:i remember when ellen gray started at the daily news as the editor
she went on daily news live, the sports show
and said the new middle of the book "yo" section was for "women and enlightened men"
did i ever tell you i was on daily news live
and bill conlin asked me if i invented the SoBig virus
i can't win the woman of the week award though
there's also an award called "history's women: the unsung heroes"
AR: like harriet tubman?
me: no this week it's elizabeth barret browning
AR: wait, she's an unsung HERO?
[...later...]
10:48 AM me: that would be a good comic
beetle bailey in iraq
maybe sgt. snorkel's dog is killed by an IED
