Tom Knox Unlikely To Purge Basilica Of Statues

If you were at the St. Patrick's Day parade on Saturday -- conveniently held exactly one week before St. Patrick's Day -- you may have seen the signs promoting Tom Knox's mayoral campaign.

They signs read either "Irish" or "Irish Catholic," attempting to stem off, uh, the legions of potato farmers who support Bob Brady. Gar Joseph does some fact-checking into Knox's background today:

Knox's mom was half-Irish, half-German, and his maternal grandmother spoke German. While Knox is sometimes a Scotch name, this Knox is Irish on his dad's side and "not related to the [Scotch] John Knox, who led the Protestant rebellion."

Knox may not know his Gilligan's Island, but he sure does know his Church history! It's good he clarified, too. As far as I know, Knox is the only major candidate to publicly oppose the ransacking of Catholic Churches in this city.
