Joey may be extreme in his methods of expressing his opinions. I am no fan nor detractor of him one way or the other. I haven't ever been to Philly, nor ever had a cheese steak sandwich in my life, however I am still an American.
In my opinion: Requesting people to use, and in effect, then begin learn to speak the native language of English, when in an American establishment, is not racist.
An eatery also has the right to refuse service to anyone, and that place isn't doing that . If they were, especially based on race or religion or any ethnicity, then you would have a very strong point and I would be appalled by them , and be one of the first to let them know how completely weak such a policy would be.
However they are not .
The claim by Roberto Santiago, that this request to ask people to speak English, is in effect the same as saying" Brown men get out of here" is quite a stretch, to say the least.
I think he , (and all people in general) would do a better service to his organization ( their causes)and to Hispanic people everywhere if he (they)were to refrain from playing the race card anytime he (they)can,- as THAT- more than anything, is what harms the Hispanic , Black, White and other Minority/Majority image(s)
I believe that as whole, Americans of all backgrounds, just want everyone to be treated equally and to be responsible for living up to the same standards that apply to them. Reverse discrimination is the same thing as discrimination, and people falsely claiming they are being victimized or biased against is really just as bad as true discrimination in my humble opinion.

When I travel to the Great Country of Mexico, I always do my best to not only speak Spanish, but also to learn more phrases, and slang terms and more Spanish in general and I notice that it is much appreciated by all the people that I meet there. I would hope and suggest that anyone living in or visiting this Country would try and do the same with English.
All of us need to work together and none of us should falsely play the race, and discrimination card, as that is very divisive and if we refrain from doing that, then we will all be much better off .

Why is wanting immigrates to learn how to speak English such a big deal. How are they supposed to function in this country if they can’t communicate with people? Next question is why are we catering so much to Spanish? Vento is not singling out any nationality or language, nor is he discriminating against anyone. My grandmother spoke English most of the time, but when she was speaking to sisters or family from her generation she would also speak in Italian. A friend from school was Japanese and his family would speak in Japanese amongst themselves, but spoke English to others. I mean its common sense; I know a term not in the liberal’s vocabulary.

Do you come into the world learning how to type? With practice, you learn it because you're going to use it a lot. A similar situation here in coming to America from another place, you will go farther knowing the English. This is what Joey is saying, okay? He's not anti this or that.

I read the biography of The Von Trapp Family Singers and Maria's struggles to learn English in New York after they crossed over, but she knew it was important for her success and for the family, also to learn the language.

If I were traveling to Italy or Canada, I'd be responsible for learning some basics to get around and if I had any lengthly stay, make an effort to learn the language. Foreign exchange students are supposed to have a working vocabulary of the English language before they come over, don't they?

Geno's serves all, but where possible, speak English for your benefit as his father's father likely did several generations ago coming to this country.

Be bilingual, but learn the main language a country speaks.

I went to Dominican Republic and was surprise at the large number of Americans who cannot speak Spanish, but demand service in English. They are served, because in most countries, money is the international language.

Moments later, agents led a dazed-looking Jose Ferreira Da Silva, 35, out in handcuffs. The Brazilian had been arrested in 2002 and deported, but had slipped back into the country. He now faces up to 20 years in prison.

In a blitz that began May 26, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has arrested nearly 2,179 illegal immigrants across the country. Officials said the raids are aimed at child molesters, gang members and other violent criminals, as well as people like Da Silva who sneaked back into the country after a judge threw them out.

The crackdown is called Operation Return to Sender. Virtually every field office in the nation from ICE’s Office of Investigations and ICE’s Office of Detention and Removal Operations carried out the enforcement operation in conjunction with numerous state and local law enforcement agencies, a news release stated.

"This sends a message," said Monico, standing outside the gray Victorian apartment where Da Silva had been hiding. "When we deport you, we're serious."

An Associated Press reporter and photographer accompanied a fugitive task force as it made Operation Return to Sender raids Tuesday night and early Wednesday.

Roughly half of those arrested had criminal records for crimes that ranged from sexual assault of a minor to assault with a deadly weapon, to abduction, a news release said. The operation has caught more than 140 immigrants with convictions for sexual offenses against children; 367 known gang members, including street soldiers in the deadly Central American gang Mara Salvatrucha, or MS-13; and about 640 people who had already been deported once, immigration officials said. The numbers include more than 720 arrests in California alone.

More than 800 people arrested already have been deported.

"The fugitives captured in this operation threatened public safety in hundreds of neighborhoods and communities around the country. This department has no tolerance for their criminal behavior and we are using every authority at our disposal to bring focus to fugitive operations and rid communities of this criminality," Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said in a news release Wednesday.

"This is a massive operation," said Marc Raimondi, a spokesman for immigration enforcement or ICE, which is part of the Department of Homeland Security. "We are watching the country's borders from the inside."

In New England, officials said the sweeps have caught more than 150 people, including 75 who had come back after being deported.

ICE has a network of 35 fugitive teams across the country. The 2006 budget increased that number to 52, and the Bush administration is pushing for 70 by 2007.

The challenge, agents said, is staggering.

There are more than 500,000 "fugitive aliens" who have been deported by judges and either slipped back into the country or never left. There is often a disconnect between local and state prisons and the federal government that allows illegal immigrants to serve time and be released without being transferred to federal officials for deportation.

The work that led to the series of arrests over the past 20 days began last winter. Agents in Boston, for example, began scouting targets four months ago, conducting street surveillance and following up leads from confidential informants.

"It's a lot of preparation, and it's a lot of patience," said Jim Martin, deputy director for ICE's New England field office. "All for a couple minutes of adrenaline."

During the raid late Tuesday, the federal squad, which includes a Boston police sergeant detective, wore bulging bulletproof vests and stiff Kevlar gloves to protect their hands from needles, knives and rusty fences.

Badges dangled on chains around their necks as they passed around wanted posters and shined flashlights on the face of a 24-year-old Latvian man who had served prison time for assaulting a police officer.

The team moved in the dark, climbing fences and hiding behind parked cars to encircle a three-story house in Boston's Allston-Brighton neighborhood. All at once they emerged from the shadows. A half-dozen agents filled the front porch, their knocks on the door echoing down the block. The target had moved, the agents learned, and a team split off and caught him in Weymouth, about 15 miles south of the city.

Another man caught in the recent blitz was a Salvadoran gang member who was convicted in a stabbing that left a 13-year-old boy paralyzed. Agents caught him working at Budget Rental Car at Boston's Logan Airport.

"The problems with immigration aren't going to be solved overnight," Raimondi said as the team sped toward another raid. "You start chipping away at it ... The more teams we get up and running, the more dangerous people we are going to get off the streets."

June 5, 2006 issue - Ever since he crossed into Mexico, José Moisés has had nothing but trouble. Now the 30-year-old Honduran mechanic is hunkered down with other young illegal migrants in a rail yard just north of Mexico City, waiting for nightfall to hop a northbound freight. He displays a pale line encircling his finger. He used to have a ring there, he says—until Mexican cops slammed him against a squad car in the southern border state of Chiapas and grabbed it. "They took everything," says Moisés. "Here the Central American has no value."

As tough as the United States can be for workers who slip in from south of the border, Mexico is in a poor position to criticize. The problem goes far beyond the predatory gantlet of thugs and crooked cops facing defenseless transients like Moisés. There's ample precedent in Mexico for just about everything the United States is—or isn't—doing. Calling out the military? Mexicans may hate the new U.S. plan to deploy 6,000 National Guard troops on the border, but five years ago they cheered President Vicente Fox for sending thousands of Mexican soldiers to crack down on their southern frontier. Tougher laws? Hispanic-rights groups are enraged over U.S. efforts to criminalize undocumented aliens—yet since 1974, sneaking into Mexico has been punishable by up to two years in prison. Foot-dragging on amnesty? Fox has spent the past five years urging the United States to upgrade the status of millions of illegals from Mexico. Meanwhile, his own government has given legal status to only 15,000 foreigners without papers.

Some of the worst abuses take place on the coffee plantations of Chiapas state, where some 40,000 Guatemalan field hands endure backbreaking jobs and squalid living conditions to earn roughly $3.50 a day. Some growers even deduct the cost of room and board from that amount. "If you ask them, 'Why are you bringing in Guatemalans to work?' they say, 'You can't depend on Mexicans. They don't work hard; they're irresponsible'," says George Grayson, a political scientist specializing in Mexico at the College of William & Mary. "The truth is, you can pay [the guest workers] a pittance. And if they cause the slightest disturbance, you can send them back to Guatemala."

At least a few Mexicans are balking at the hypocrisy. Late last year their National Human Rights Commission issued a report criticizing Mexico's widespread mistreatment of aliens; the report described sub- human facilities where captured illegals are kept until they can be deported. Several international news agencies ran stories on the publication. But most of Mexico's leading papers ignored it.

Well, it seems that's all the media does nowadays is "make mountains out of mole hills". Imagine the effect if it broadcasted issues that were truly important to humanity. Like "spinning" on how the US government does not pressure the Mexican government to enforce human rights for their citizens like it does with China or providing health care. Or by pushing our government to send food etc. down to them in Mexico so that they don't have to jump the border and come up here. The quality of life up here would make this very feasible. Or like repeating and repeating the importance of getting the borders controlled in the first place.

Now my statement. Knowing what I know from being born and raised close enough to the "epicenter" of all this, I know in my heart of hearts that if a black guy could make a steak (by the way, [like] I'm confident that they can) Gino's would have no trouble hiring him. The media, and I guess quite a few "loud mouthed mis-informed Mexican rights advocates" are trying their damnedest to stretch this into many other things including "a race issue" the will benefit their cause, which is in part destroying out neighborhoods just by their being in them. Geno's signs, don't mention race. And, we do have the right to free speech.

A lot of you in Philadelphia may be hearing all about this "Mexican spew" via the media for the first time. But I have heard this thing played out here in "sue me sue you" Los Angeles a hundred times (I don't really like Los Angeles, by the way).

In an earlier post I mentioned that I am from Jersey and was born and raised there. When I first got here to Los Angeles a few years ago, the first thing I said was; "why the hell do all of these people here just bend for these Mexicans? I couldn't figure it out.

In the past it was the "affirmative action law" that had played a major role in Mexicans and other minorities getting their fair share of city and government jobs (depending on your understanding of the word fair, of course). This actually meant that any employer and government agency was forced by law to employ a certain percentage of Mexicans and other minorities qualified or not, or face penalties. That was the law. The resulting hiring up of Mexicans in Los Angeles has also added "fuel" for what they are trying to pull right now in Philadelphia and other cities as well. When affirmative action was deemed unconstitutional, many employers in Los Angeles for the most part kept the same hiring practices and still hired Mexicans because they say they needed somebody who speaks Spanish to the other people who speak Spanish, etc. I'm still not against hiring Mexicans or anybody who is qualified to do any job however, and I never have been. I am not re-spewing "Rush Limbaugh" or any of the other "biggies".

All of what I have to say comes down to this; Mexicans have pretty much gotten their own little way out in Los Angeles and they think that this "ought to work" every where else in the US. You might notice some key words often used in their "big campaign" such as "racist", and "discriminate", not to mention their other big terms; "white boy" and "whitey", etc. It seems they are just re-playing "a certain other civil rights movement" from an era back in the 60's using the same terms and slogans. I've been watching them say the same stupid thing out here for years.

Like I said, I am all for giving anybody a fair shot at a job. If they can clock in and do the job, why not let them work? In the news you hear the Mexicans say; "Mexicans work so hard". So what? Do we not work hard? Another negative thing I've noticed about Mexicans is the quality of their work. Not true in all instances though, because I've met quite a few Mexicans who do great work in the industry that I am involved in. They do a 100% fantastic job, quality wise as well. But as you might expect, stereo typing or not, this is not true in all scenarios. In fact it's quite the adverse especially when it comes to restaurants and sanitation, or food manufacturing and sanitation (bakeries, etc.). They don't get much of an education in science and biology down there (in fact none that I have seen). Point being, it's kind of dangerous having them work in restaurants or food up here, don't you think? I have a wealth of dirty restaurant stories way too lengthy to post here.

Unrelated to restaurants though, I remember working in a warehouse for a coffee company here in Los Angeles (Secretary Coffee bought out by "Food Craft" coffee long ago). they supply coffee and beverages and lease coffee and beverage machines to offices. While working for this company, there were a few Mexicans who used to just love taking cases of imported coffee and boot them around like a football destroying the boxes in the process. They were long past the age of knowing better in fact some were in their 40's and 50's. I'll never forget their "joy" and "laughter" as they were destroying dozens of cases of product and giggling like a bunch of little kids playing their little game of football while the "whities" weren't looking (hee hee hee). Of course I mentioned the incident to the management but it seemed they just didn't give a damn. I know that I certainly did. No, I couldn't figure that one out either and it wasn't long before I left.

Here's one about the cable TV installer. If it wasn't a Mexican it was a chimpanzee. Well, about two years ago the comcast cable TV installer asked to use our bathroom and I said of course. Long after he leaves, I find that he didn't lift the toilet seat and pissed all over it and the floor. Need I say more.

No, I haven't met too many Mexicans (in fact none) that I'd really care to be around. In fact I feel like I'm writing a book sometimes because I've never seen anything like it. I just pray that Los Angeles is not a precursor of things to come for the rest of this country or for that matter Philadelphia. How about bush; "yeah, lets give em all amnesty". God help us.

Guess I'd like to make more than one point.
If you go out to restaurants, think for a moment what is cooking your food. As we know, America is not automaticly loved by the entire rest of the world for fighting for other's freedoms etc. Mexicans have a similar hatred for Americans. To this day there is quite a large number of them (but not all) who hate the fact that California, etc. used to belong to Mexico. This is more apparent in the western states like California. This group of Mexicans seems to believe the one day California and especially Los Angeles will once again belong to them. In other words they think that they will drive us out by making it unpleasant for American. FEEBLE as this sounds, this is what they do. They have radio stations that make this very point in Spanish language only on a routine and daily basis. This gets ignored of course by everybody except Mexicans.

Well, as for restaurants, some Mexicans will not think twice before dropping your food on the floor and serving it to you and it gets worse. I have seen this for myself many many times. For that reason I don't eat in restaurants where Mexicans are employed (this is them working hard). Most Denny's, IHOP's, and chain restaurants in Los Angeles have nothing but Mexicans employed and most don't have any Americans working there at all. Personally, there is a Greek restaurant that serves Greek style food run by the owner which I go to occasionally but I know better than to go out to breakfast, lunch, etc. to restaurants where Mexicans work. And forget about mentioning a McDonalds.

I was back in Philly briefly a few years ago and I had noticed a few Mexicans in checked chef pants that could not speak English. Imagine taking your family out to dinner for a special occasion and giving a bunch of Mexicans the opportunity to serve the dirt off the floor with the very food your family is about to eat.

I won't touch on the subject of hygiene (but please think about all this).

As we all know, the majority of restaurant owner operators in the tri-state area would not be capable of even imagining such a feat but I have seen the way some of these Mexicans are out here and YES it happens all the time. They think this is so funny.

The quality of food in and around Philly should not be taken for granted. That is also one big reason why I really miss the place. In Los Angeles there are some unscrupulous restaurant owners who hire Mexicans and pay them low wages to work their profit machines. It seems likely that Mexicans will think the whole country is run the same way.

The trend goes like this; The Mexicans who grew up here in Los Angeles are usually the ones who have and practice the hatred. They are established here and have been able to finance radio stations. The ones jumping the border are just very glad to be here. They don't seem to mean too much harm but of course they should not be underestimated.

Realize it or not, we do have a crisis on our hands. It's our nature to try to be fair and give an immigrant a job. But more often then not we are giving a job or a chance to someone that may not deserve it. Bear in mind, for many of them, border jumping is a way of life and the only way of life. There is no other way. I see day laborers on a daily basis a mere half a block from my house. Some seem friendly and appreciative and some seem aggressive. I say hello sometimes in Spanish or English and may even pull out a buck and give it to them if I'm in the mood and there aren't too many other ones standing around. But it certainly would be a lot nicer with out them. I see about 50 or more every day at different locations.

Not to mention the ones driving around in cars or trucks with out licenses and getting into accidents. This whole thing is dangerous.

People are people but as I said in a previous post, there must a way other then having them scrounging all over our neighborhoods and lining the streets looking for work. We certainly don't want them to starve to death but we don't want them trapezing through our backyards either.

I can confirm from experience that what you are saying is all true, and you are just scratching the surface of the issue.
I live in Northern California, and since I was raised in South America, and speak fluent Spanish, I can understand what is being said and sung about on the "bazillion" Mexican radio station's out here- namely that they feel they are the rightful owners of California-( and Texas) that they will one day take it back as theirs, and that they truly hate Americans, and that includes Afro Americans, Japanese Americans etc. etc, not just the white gringos . Let me say that again- THEY HATE THE GRINGOS WITH A PASSION, --ALL OF US. That is their not- so- secret, dirty little secret, and they are laughing at us for how they can Say whatever they want OVER AND OVER, ON THE AIRWAVES, SPEWING INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS ANTI AMERICAN HATE SENTIMENTS, AND 99 PERCENT OF CALIFORNIAN'S CAN'T UNDERSTAND A WORD OF IT.
We have Mexican ranch hands out here that work for us and we have had lengthy conversations about this problem.( not all Mexicans support this idea, but the overall MAJORITY DO.
They see us as weak and lazy and spoiled and very,VERY,VERY stupid that we have not only allowed this to happen but have actually SUPPORTED IT.
I won't bore you all with one horror story after another, but I swear, that the spit in the food, piss in your drink stuff is nothing compared to what I have heard, seen and experienced here in California. This is a HUGE safety concern for the entire U.S. now, though people who don't live in California, are mostly clueless about what is headed their way as we speak.
And of course, god forbid anyone stands up to it individually, as that race card gets played faster than you can say" my daughter just got raped and kidnapped," ( and when that happens, all the DNA and fingerprints will do NO GOOD as the bad guys are completely undocumented, and even on the rare occasions that they get caught, they skate Right through our system, which does NOT want to spend the dough on prosecuting and housing them- they just deport them which is like kicking a drunk guy out of a 900 mile sized bar with not ONE bouncer stopping his inevitable re- entry)
Where I live, it is EASIER ,FASTER AND CHEAPER TO TRAVEL IN AND OUT OF CALIFORNA/MEXICO FOR THE ILLEGALS THAN FOR US. At any one of the endless places they loiter looking for work ( which is another story in regards to the Mexican Mafia that runs that show) anyhow When they want to go home for Christmas, they wait for the immigration guys to show up, and the guys who want a free ride home run around in circles till they get caught while the others actually TRY and get away( and DO). Immigration nabs those who LET them catch them, and they get a free ride and are back in Mexico, under 24 hours later -after a good meal or two thanks to Uncle Sam.
2 weeks later or whenever they want to come back for some more dough they are back.
Does anyone out there , anyone AT ALL, really think that any of these guys could, would and will respect such a weak system as ours? let alone respect any of our values or lives in general? HELL NO THEY DON"T!

Imagine if our worst citizens , the ones with repeat criminal offenses of serious nature, the types who can't get hired because of heavy criminal records, could go to Mexico, almost instantly earn 5 -10 times as much there. all the while knowing they are looked down on and are working for what they see as rich, lazy, despicably weak locals, that they are free to hate every one (Mexican) they work for or encounter to the point of being able to rap about it, or sing about it, or just call in to fifty radio stations and talk about it, and nothing happens to them- and that they know that they can drive without a licence, never fear being locked up for good even if they rape and murder. This is how it is for the illegal Mexican criminal. DO you think our nicest criminals, given that same situation, might at the very least piss on their food too? and could literally get away with rape, robbery, even murder, because they needed NO licence or ID to work, drive, rent housing, etc.

HELLO THERE DAVE! Your post is super informative and I enjoyed reading it.

On behalf of Philadelphia and the tree-state area I'd like thank DAVE very much. Dave has succeeded in giving to you what I could only try to give you in the way of information on "WHAT THE MEXICANS ARE REALLY LIKE". Unbenownst to the majority of citizens in the tri-state area and most of America for that matter, "MEXICANS ACTUALLY DO HATE OUR GUTS WITH A PASSION".

Born and raised in New Jersey where there were not ANY Mexicans, I was also curious about them (though they are starting to find their way into New Jersey now). When I first decided to come out to California, I had actually had thoughts about going to Mexico for a visit. I WAS also a victim to the thinking that they would probably be like "the rest of the civilized world" because after all, this is the 21st century, right?. No my friends, "MEXICANS CERTAINLY ARE NOT LIKE THE CIVILIZED WORLD AT ALL". They are kind of savage like. It took me almost a year of living out here in Lost Angeles to realize that THEY ACTUALLY DO HATE AMERICANS (dumb gringo).

I'm sure people who don't know Mexicans get their ideas about them from TV. They think they are a type of "hard working perfectionist people selecting only the finest peppers, herbs, and ingredients for their dishes, etc." Brainwashed from TV commercials and media. But if they could only come out to California and see for themselves. It won't be a long time before they think otherwise.

I would like to take the sentence in your post and change it from;"All of YOU better wake up and smell the coffee, to "All of US better wake up and smell the coffee!" I say this because I Think we'd REALLY LIKE TO HAVE YOU ON OUR SIDE. That is, all of the rest of us Americans who have never really been exposed to Mexicans or have any idea what they are like (yet?).

Incidently, you also must not realize that "your Mexicans" DO NOT hire out of their own race. Mexicans "ARE VERY RACIST" and won't hire any Americans at all. They only hire their own. If they work in a supervisory type position at say a bus company, or a city job, etc., even though a driver, mechanic, etc. may be very qualified for the job, they will hire a less qualified and most often an unqualified Mexican. It's not hate but maybe a little anger regarding Mexicans. It boils down to a "quality of life" issue. They will ruin neighborhoods by just moving into them.

Van Nuys California. Only 10 or so years ago it used to be a great place to live. Very nice looking place with trees, major department stores, malls, etc. It had potential to be even better. It is now a slum, mattresses lining the street, abandoned cars, drugs, crime, even prostitution. Big dept. stores have pulled out, Sizzler and others have pulled out. The buildings are now vacant with graffiti all over them. I don't have too much space to list everything here. It isn't me who lives there. It is about 90% to 100% Mexicans that now live there.

If you're from Philly, you must have heard about that story in Levittown or Allentown (I can't remember exactly where), but there was a fire and after the fire company came and put out the fire they found that the bedrooms had 10 or fifteen mattresses on all the floors, etc.and there were about 40 to 60 people living there.

This is the stuff that we who have had experiences with them are talking about. They are a crass bunch of obnoxious people. Even their music is horrible. It's not like that of Puerto Rico which has rthym to it. I can listen to Puerto Rican music. I love music but Mexican music I can't listen to. Can't even stand it for that matter. It isn't really music. It is 4/4 and it sounds like a drunk Salvation Army Band trying to play a polka. I know music doesn't have anything to do with this issue, but it's just one more thing that I don't like about them.

If you haven't been to California or some other western states where quite a few of them are, then you can't possibly know how they are. You are missing a whooooooooole lot of pieces to the puzzle.

I know everybody can't come out to Los Angeles and spend a year here to see just what they are like but if the "real story" on them doesn't get out to the American public soon, it seems a whole lot of innocent people are going to end up finding out what they are like the hard way.

Also for the tree huggers_ Yes, Many of us " Conservatives" also conserve energy and natural resources. In regards to my family-We hand wash our dishes here at home , we take fairly quick showers, we wash our cars and boat and work truck minimally , all to conserve water. We are not dirty, smelly or hippie like in order to do this.
We carry a trash bucket in our car, and on our boat so that when we see trash in our travels, we pick it up,-as much as space allows. We take a plastic bag each and clean the shoreline when walking on the beach, and NOT just during Earth day. We pick up trahs out of the lakes we visit. We catch and release our fish when angling.
And most importantly, we do volunteer work for our Community. My daughter isn't even in High School yet and her first job is as a volunteer.
We stop and say hello and actually TALK with real interest in their lives to old people, handicapped people, emotional , mentally or physically handicapped. We support single mom's and their struggles, we support our War Vets, and we have empathy for ANYONE who is TRYING to help themselves get over personal; struggles with substance abuse.
We do NOT support the illegal immigrants who dump all their trash on us, and who treat us with disrespect and pose a danger to us.
I am NO hero, that is for sure. I am just an ordinary man doing his part for Our Country and Our Earth. Try it sometime. It's not a bad way to be.

For years I've felt like a "soul surviver" with this cause of mine (and yours, and many others). I often jokingly say "I'm a free lance writer for the AP", or I'll say "I'm writing a book" in reference to my travels around Los Angeles. "Oh, the things mine eyes have seen!"

Regardless. It's like I said in a post already where sadly "the average Joes" out there have no clue what Mexicans are really like and they form their opinions (oh, such positive things) about them from the TV, etc. I was once the same way. As I said in a previous post. I was 25 when I first came out to Los Angeles. I just figured that Mexicans would be like the rest of the civilized world because after all, this is the 21st century. Oh, was I ever wrong!

Sadly, nobody will ever know what they are really like until it is too late. I've seen many times where "a nice decent family" probably from out of town will go out to dinner to restaurant and all sit down, hungry, and ready to eat, relax and enjoy. And as soon as the Mexican cooks or anybody else realize they are there, the Mexicans literally relish the moment. You can see the look in eyes. "Ahh, I took a pee and didn't wash my hands like the "gringos" want me to. Now they are going to all eat the food I make. Ha ha ha dumb gringos.

I feel so sorry.

I visited San Francisco just once for a weekend in 1990 but when I was up there it was a different world as far as ordering food in restaurants. I had no problem ordering anything and the quality of the food was very good. Compared to L.A. the difference is like night and day. In L.A. you can complain to the manager but; oops, Mr. Ricardo doesn't know what your talking about (besides, he knows everything is clean. The customer must be crazy for eating here in the first place). You know the story very very well.

I am serious about an idea. I would like to put up a website with nothing but stories about them of course all being factual. The word must somehow get to the American public. I know of a very cheap and reliable hosting service and I would be glad to pay for this as well as design and upload the site. I really could use some stories from other people though. You are no doubt a great double agent with your fluency in Spanish.

I would guess you don't have an abundance of time given that you have your family, but give me a write if possible. You could email the stories, I could upload them. Of course no names need be used. The time is ripe for something like this and it should also generate a lot of interest.

First off I don't watch T.V. I allow life to entertain me( and my computer:)~ ) But let me ask you this......When was the last time you visited the Philadelphia area? Why is it that liberals are so foul-mouthed, yet want to deny someone else's first amendment rights ?

I find it very funny and hypocritical of lot of these people posting comments that are anti-English. They are probably members of the ACLU. These people are the same whack job liberals that behind close doors are the first to complain that their son is getting harassed in school by the illegal-Latino children. Or the same one who complains that they had to speak to a tech support professional in India and they couldn't understand him/her. Or the same one that complains that all the gas stations are owned by Iranians. At least this Indian person realizes that to get a better job in India you need to speak English. The Iranians realize that to own a business here you need to speak English. What is wrong with learning the language of the Country you live in? What is wrong with knowing English?
Last time I checked, immigrants need to know English to become a citizen. Those that do try know that you need to know English. Once again, common sense has gone out the door. Leave it up to the liberals to divide us and cater to their “feel good flavors of the month causes”. These are the same people who brought you “2 + 2 = 5”.

What you fail to realize is back in the day, which we need to return to, immigrants worked hard to get here. In order to get their citizenship, they had to take English lang. classes and pass a test. THEY LEARNED THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE AND SPOKE IT! Ask anybody old enough to be your grandparent who came here from another country as a young person. I can go on and on regarding the lengthy process and sometimes, numerous denials before they were granted entry into our country and any of them would tell you thats the way it should be. You people say you're patriotic and you have pride in your country? Well then, dammit, start taking care of it!!!!!!!!!! and remember this truth...when its too easy to have, you don't respect it.
