The Temple Commercial: An Analysis
This commercial has, admittedly, been on for a while, but the more I see it, the more it confuses me, so I've decided to discuss it here:
First off, Temple students? Not that nice. The kid in this ad is the equivalent of a Penn kid not secretly wanting the University to expand all the way to 63rd Street. And which classes at Temple teach you where ATMs and bakeries are? I mean, maybe he learned where the Art Museum was on a Temple orientation tour, but he didn't necessarily have to go to Temple to do that.
And why does knowing directions make you smarter? If anything, this kid should be at home studying, not being an unofficial charter member of the North Philly District. Really, I don't think I want to go to Temple at all now. And, uhm, this ad was what did it. Sure.

Just kidding. I've always been baffled by that commercial too. Is there a course called "Philadelphia Directions 251" that I've never known about? Is that what makes us so great?

might it be that temple students are all from philadelphia and not affraid of knowing their city. while penn kids are just children who often can't find their own campus.
